There are also references embedded in the names of characters themselves: - Tom Kazansky (Wraith hero) is a character in the movie Top Gun - Gui Montag (Firebat hero) is a reference to Guy Montag, the protagonist of Ray Bradbury's novel Fahrenheit 451 - The protoss units and titles are not really "pop culture" references but rather historical references. "Archon" means "Ruler" in Greek, and was the title of a public official in Athens. "Praetor" was the title of a public Roman official. "Templar" is a rather obvious reference to the Knights Templar. "Dragoon" refers to a class of mounted infantry which was first employed in the British army in the 18th century; as a matter of fact, modern military regiments still use the name "Dragoon" (e.g. US 1st Cavalry Regiment).

The science vessel being voiced by Harry Shearer is one of those urban myths so common it somehow made it onto wikipedia, but it isn't actually true sadly. Terran derives from the word Terra and suffix an. Terra being the latin word for Earth (or the goddess of earth) and the suffix an turning the word into a noun of belonging. therefore a Terra-an or Terran is a being from Terra. while exclusivly used by science fiction for human, it is not a fancy reference to humans, just a formation of a word similar to ROMAN (Rome + an).

Well here's something that's hidden in the game files. There's unused sound effects for Terrain and Zerg building when they are unpowered, just like Protoss buildings when not next to a pylon, but Zerg and Terrain buildings can't be unpowered in the normal game!
@BryantVonMiller
@BryantVonMiller 3 жыл бұрын
I remember reading across many forums and how they wanted to have Zerg buildings attached to creep, and have what they do in sc2. Zerg move and attack faster on creep, slower without. But due to time constraints and being unable to find suitable ways to balance creep buildings, producing lots of creep. But finding it near impossible. Due to testers focusing on creep colony's, effectively crippling and making zerg the weakest in the game. So they scrapped that project until later. I am more then likely wrong, maybe mis-remembering. Who knows. I just remember reading this across a few forums years, years ago. When I was a teenager, in the infancy of the internet. For all I know, this was fan theories and speculation

This came as a surprise. Back in ‘98 I watched the entire game credits to check if any of the cast of Simpsons were on it and found none. So I checked again now and, no, Harry Shearer doesn’t give voice to the Science Vessel, nor anything else in Starcraft. Apparently, he was falsely credited for it on IMDb and Wikipedia for a long time. The “Fusion, eh? I’ll have to remember it” is a reference to “Simpson, eh? I’ll have to remember it.” (In the show, mr. Burns can’t remember Homer Simpson’s name even after ten years of Homer working in the plant.)

For example the Goliath hero is named Alan Shezard, after a character from Vision of Escaflowne, and the Wraith hero is Tom Kanzansky from Top Gun. Both of those ended up being used in the hidden bonus campaign Enslaver. About the Walkyrie being german this is the theme of the UED, to show that they're actually from Earth and not just space texans like the Terrans. They also have a French general, a Russian vice admiral, and Duran posed as a middle eastern man.

He was masquerading as Duran here. In SC2 he just doesn't care if anyone's figured out who he really is. So it makes sense he'd want to drive home what his fake name is.

The civilian has that line because in the campaign there are a few missions where you can control them, such as the battlecruiser piloting mission.

I'm sure you noticed by now, but while the line "The ship... out of danger?" is from Star Trek II, the clip you showed was actually from Star Trek III, which calls back to the same line.

Castulo Guerra voices Duran. Jason Hayes voices: Artanis, Arbiter, Firebat, Cerberus Commander (his voice is of Artanis' without the Protoss effects), Overlord (his voice mixed with Horse effects), Probe. Stukov's VA for SC1 is still unknown. Same for DuGalle. Science Vessel is voiced by Tracy W. Bush. He also did some Hydralisk sound effects. Medic - I am pretty sure Tiffany Hayes voiced this unit. The voice sounds more of her than Campbell. Pretty sure she voices the Dryads from WarCraft III as well along with the female Villagers.
