I was able to do lots of connections in my mind among apparently disconnected things I've been studying by watching this. This is gold indeed. Thanks!

I had this intuition that wavelets would result in deep convolutional networks, so I was studying wavelets and to my surprise the video ended just as my intuition hinted. It was very satisfying to watch indeed. Learning the many in-between steps in the evolution of this idea and the great presentation by the speaker. I believe there could be many applications of these ideas beyond what is obvious. Nvidia for instance has this video conferencing protocol or format where minimal information is transmitted while keeping high res image on the screen this math must be the backbone of that architecture. Well great video thanks for uploading. 🎉

This type of helicopter view can only be done by someone of the stature of a Stephane or an Ingrid. Pure gold.

I have tried to learn this stuff 8 years ago on my own but being electronic engineer, I did not have the rigorous mathematical background which would give me tools to understand the maths. The problem I was trying to solve was how to implement a wavelet transform processor in hardware (as a hobby project). The wavelets I was looking at were from JPEG2000, and they are a lot harder than the very simple Haar wavelet.

6 Thanks for your interesting video. In the video below I buckle up a spring sheet of material. The shape looks like a flat bell shape or sine wave curve. It is bounded on the ends. I stress or compress it from the vertical axis. Is there any analogy in statistics that this models? I also do it in a V-shaped pattern. People say I am just plucked guitar strings. I said you can not make structures with vibrating guitar strings or harmonic oscillators. kzbin.info/www/bejne/raOlpKSfepWpfZYsi=waT8lY2iX-wJdjO3 In the model, “U” shape waves are produced as the loading increases and just before the wave-like function shifts to the next higher energy level. Over-lapping all the waves frequencies together using Fournier Transforms, I understand makes a “U” shape or square wave form. If this model has merit, seeing the sawtooth load verse deflection graph produced could give some real insight in what happened during the quantum jumps. You can reproduce my results using a sheet of Mylar* ( the clear plastic found in school folders.

Isn't it very revealing as to how little traffic a video like this experiences, in stark contrast to the idle senseless entertainment to which people tend to flock? I came across wavelet transform as a promising technique in the field of non-destructive testing with ultrasound. Although I have not yet found the time to delve into the subject deep enough as to be of any help to my peers in this matter, I still hope that it is not too late.
