The upcoming election 2017 may determine the future of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. After 15 years in power, president Kabila is no longer allowed to compete for election. However, the regime and the kleptocratic elite want to avoid the loss of power at all costs. This film documents the political situation prior to the elections and shows the ambivalent connections of government, UNO, development aid, mineral deposits and civil war.
For over a decade only a view filmmakers dared to do such a comprehensive documentation about this country. Pictures of the local living situation are rare since the country is one of the most isolated and chaotic countries in the world. Writer and Director Dietmar Klumpp was investigating for this project over two years - six month of it in the Congo - and has won for his efforts the Bavarian TV Award 2016.

Let me tell u that people u guys are watching here are your fellow humans no matter the what is the color of their skin. Living in a country which is rich and seeing those riches being looted in order to make others rich whereas those who own the land are living in an extreme poverty, is a painful situation guys. U guys need to think more than twice before leaving a comment about the situation of Congo! 😠😠😠

Am I tripping did the UN ministry of development just give the Director or President(whoever he was) of Congo as gift to the youth some plastic dollar store looking flutes. Really? Those are not REAL INSTRUMENTS FOR SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA. Nobody will hear those flutes when the youth orchestra plays. 🙈✋😏I could not imagine what the violins they desired would look like. 😒😌I know the UN has more money to invest in real flutes. How embarrasing. Smh lol

What is happening in Africa is normal. The same thing happened in eastern europe 100 years ago. The formation of nation states always brings war and ethnic cleansing. The african states have a multitude of ethnic groups that are not in friendly terms with one another and also with different customs and traditions, so is no wonder that they dont get along.

Those white "UN"-marked helicopters at 1:06 are South African designed and built Rooivalk attack helicopters that's proven indespensible in controlling and suppresing rebel attacks. Pity envy and international politics has limited their sale and use to Africa. It's a serious kick-ass piece of merchandise.

The army generals in the DRC are so corrupt to the extent that they embezzle armymen's salaries!! Congo has serious leadership problem. Infact half of the problems could be solved if the internal Congolese leadership was organized. They have to cut the navy to only 1000 servicemen. 1000 naval staff in a country of 80 million and the largest lake in the region !!!! as if thats not enough they have only 1 speed boat which is functional. many of these arms find their way into Congo via the rivers and other eastern water bodies. These rebels and foreign crooks capitalize on the government's disorganization. Congo needs a reset button. You can research on this topic

Congo is a sad case of opportunities missed, Lumumba insults the Belgian King on Independence Day, civil war breaks out on day 4 after independence. Mobutu fails to step down and save the Zairian State, his own creation in 1990. Laurent Kabila, a 1960s Maoist offers nothing. The only thing that had preserved the integrity of DRC is the UN resolution to preserve the Congo back in 1961. Otherwise neighboring states would have helped themselves with territorial slices of this large African cake.

The problem of Congo is the everlasting need of europeans to loot Congolese wealth. i understand were you are coming from, but the way the game is played in Congo it is not for the shallow minded individuals to understand. Now, if you know why Lumumba and L.D. Kabila were assassinated, then you will level up with how we feel about the west sabotaging our progress. But, i can't blame you for your shortcoming.

This is why it is important that the African Union becomes one federation and with that, place the Congo and Benin and the Gambia as well as other mineral rich states under direct dominion. I can't explain what this means right now but what it will make happen is, sanction the mining and selling of these minerals for years anywhere within and without the union. This wealth is shared by very few individuals at the demise of these Africans who are deemed to be anything but a cumbersome form of humanity by the rich and wealthy who benefit from these mines, these very same people who claim to be "helping" as long as the flow of wealth is not interrupted are the same ones who are stealing from the poor and removing food from the mouths of hungry children.

Celismar Silva no it's fucking not. Since all the non African countries are benefitting (matter of fact basing) their whole economic system on those raw minerals extracted from there, YEAH you're required to take action. And by the way, I don't think you need the Army to stop the gangs running Brazil. Also this is not on Brazilian expenses, but on UN'S. Focus on your local police authorities and implement proper policies to fix your domestic issue.

So, according to the video, Germany has spent 1000 billion euros in the Congo. Sadly, it doesn't look like they received much for their money. Why do they continue? Sending diplomats is useless, when one is dealing with a totally corrupt government. One needs some rule of law and stability to expect any diplomatic results. In this case it appears that the Congo government is smarter than the Germans.

Ha ha, this used to be the Belgium Congo, which, after South Africa, was the richest colony in Africa in GNP. During that period (of colonization) the Belgium government built a huge, modern infrastructure of paved roads, airports, shipping ports, a vast railroad network, and communications. There was also an ever expanding electric grid that covered much of the country by 1959. That was just the infrastructure. Add to that modern hospitals, where Belgium and African trained doctors and nurses worked together to reduce tropical disease by over 60% by the time they gained "independence". The B/C had a legal system of courts, a standing, well trained and disciplined native police force to keep order; and common civil and criminal laws that applied to both Europeans and the native Congolese people. The healthy colonial economy grew to see modern employment (of native Congolese) in the form of a thousand plus trades that sprang from a vibrant private sector; everything from construction to transportation. They native Congolese were hired and trained to build houses, hotels, hospitals, public building, parks, schools etc. etc. Today the globalists and international communists have re-written history. Today the colonies were Hells, and the European colonists were demons. Everything is said about the abuses but nothing is said about contributions...about the effort to bring black Africa and the black Africans into something resembling modern order and civilization. Almost all of Black Africa was colonized at some point or another in time between the 19th and mid 20th century. The French, the Germans, the Portugese, the Italians and the Belgiums. It is patently absurd to believe the modern advance lie that these varied, Christian colonizers came to Africa to abuse and slaughter the locals for sport. Even if it was the desire to do so, it would have been impossible to have built economically successful colonies that were based entirely in cruelty and murder. For better or for worse, the various European colonizers brought with them Christian missionaries. It was these very missionaries who were the first to protest before their respective home governments any sytemic abuse and cruelty of less scrupulous government officials. I will leave it there, just to say that my point is that the Europeans understood only too quickly that it was kindness that pacified and civilized much quicker than the gun. But then there was the UN. Oh the UN. A wholly evil abortion of socialists, communists, nihilists and humanists that convinced the western world that Africa could make it on its' own without the despicable white man. Post war Russia in particular, i.e. the USSR, was only too keen to see Africa de-colonized, knowing full well that it would create a void they would poised to fill. And they did just that. ...to be continued

Killed millions you say! Chopped off hands and "feets"? My God, , Rude Boy, why didn't you say so in the first place? That's vital information. Golly, that explains everything. Now I see quite clearly why the Congolese took a well developed and vibrant land with an organized and running economy and turned it into a hopeless, stinking, corrupt, murderous shit hole in less than 20 years. I suppose that also explains why all the other ex-colonies ended up pretty much the same way. It certainly had nothing to do with the inherent character flaws of the people. No, it was because the white man was a big meany. Yes, there's nothing more logical than taking the gift of a beautiful country handed to you on a silver platter, with huge development, hospitals, schools, universities, agriculture, vast natural resources, tourism and stability and destroying it because you were mistreated. That'll show whitey who's boss. Meanwhile Rude Boy 77, I would be beholden to you if you can explain the present state of some, most, of the "modern" African countries that never were colonized like, say, Liberia. Please be so kind as to let us all know just what exactly is their excuse for what Liberia is today, i.e. another African run hell hole where crime, corruption, death and chaos are the delay diet. Am I missing something? Did king Leopold sneak into Liberia and kill millions too, and cut off hands and "feets" while no one was looking? I would say, Rude Boy 77, (excellent nickname btw, it suits you perfectly) that you typify everything that is wrong with the black man. Overall you suck at independence and self determination and rather than just admit the truth, you blame whitey. It doesn't even have to be whitey. Any race that shows some genuine willingness to improve their lives up will do. In America the blacks hate the Vietnamese, the Koreans, the Indians (dot, not feather) and the Mexicans. Hell, any race suffices when yours is always at the bottom. American blacks even hate Africans, like, for example, the Nigerians, who immigrate to American and do quite well for themselves. How ironic is that? The very same people who constantly insist they be called "African-Americans" can't even get along with the actual people they pretend to admire. I find it ironic also that the black Africans literally chased the white man off the continent at the barrel of a gun and now all they want to do is go to Europe and live with the evil white man. There's plenty of young African men in Belgium, by the way. They mainly sell drugs, steal and live of taxpayer benefits. I guess they do that because it reminds them of home; except for the state benefits of course. Truthfully, Africa should be the economic powerhouse of the world. South Africa was well on its' way until 1994. Now it's run by African communists. Did you know, Rude Boy 77, that SA was the only country on the continent that actually designed and built jet aircraft and helicopters? I'm guessing not. You were too busy whinging about apartheid and telling yourself the lie that everything wrong with you and your race is the fault of...fill in the blank. I can't wait for your learned rebuttal. No doubt you will think of something clever like the last time.
