I remember the winter of 1963 - I came over from Uganda where I was born in 1961. I still have a lot of memories from the period. I'm 60 now - lovely video.

I could be one of those kids sledging there, that was what we kids in the area called the "rockies" we also used to sledge further up the road through the bridge at Jacks Brae.

I remember most of the sights shown in this film. The Green was one market place, the other one was possibly the Timmer Market off of Castlegate. Lots of those buildings are no longer there or have been redeveloped. The gas worrks has gone as has the Chemical Works next door, I was away up in Northfield and left school in 1969.

Thanks for your comments. The sledging hill was at the back of Woolmanhill, I seem to remember. The market was somewhere a wee bit on the south side of Union St. One of my friends mentioned the name of it to me the other day in an email. I'll look it up & get back to you. Cheers for now

Excellent footage, did you know there are plans to build a civic square on the site of Union Terrace ? The memories you have captured will be lost forever. Please consider sending a copy of your film to the Scottish Screen Archive.

@SairFechtFilms Thanks for your comments.Sounds like you must have been around in Aberdeen at the same time as myself. People don't seem to go in for directly putting up political slogans any more, do they? I suppose they post them here on youtube in video form or maybe on Facebook or Twitter? Anyway, I didn't have a lot of time to be involved in any direct action in Aberdeen in those days ,so I wouldn't have a clue who these sloganists were.

What a great piece of film capturing the old Aberdeen. Very familiar faces at the great flea market - the Castlegate and the Green. I think I know who whitewashed the political slogans - they were a familiar sight in Aberdeen during the 1960s. Great piece of history, thanks.

great film . I was a student in Aberdeen 1966-70. Can you tell us exactly what year the film was shot? I could also tell you who the anarchists were.

Hello there. I am a 3rd year medical student at the University of Aberdeen and I am doing a project on 1964 outbreak. I was wondering whether I could use some stills from your video in my presentation. I will, of course, be happy to give you credit for them. Thanks in advance for your time and assistance.

+Ananyo Bagchi Sorry, this reply has taken so long. I lost interest in my KZbin channel after it was taken over by Google. I was actually also a med student at Aberdeen & the epidemic happened just before I went up to Uni ! Feel free to use any stills you want though I fear this reply is probably coming too late for your project ! Good luck anyway , you have chosen a very demanding career!
