WhiskyJason reviews Aberlour A'bunadh Alba Batch 5 Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Aberlour A'bunadh Alba Batch matures in casks in which previously stored bourbon whiskey, this Aberlour is bottled at cask strength of 62.7% vol, uncolored and unfiltered.
The name Alba, refers to Quercus Alba, the variety of American white oak from which the ex-bourbon barrels were made and in which this whiskey was aged exclusively.
A'Bunadh is named after a Gaelic word that translates as "the original". The distillery thereby refers to its founder James Fleming and brings out this bottling in his honor.

Category Single Malt
Distillery Aberlour
Bottled 30.11.2021
Casktype first-fill American oak ex-bourbon barrel

Here's a good fix for this spirit, which makes it exceptional. Drink about a dram. If you have 1792 small batch, add back the 1 1/2 dram. Amazing. Beautiful bourbon and fruit perfume. Thank me later

Yes, it would be great if more distilleries with a sherry focus released a bourbon cask whisky to show off their distillate. Bravo Jason, another great review!

I fondly remember Batch 1 & 2... So pure and untainted with sherry, wine and who knows what else. Another favorite of mine... Writers Tears Cask Strength, so balanced and delicious..!!!

Finally a video for Alba and the batch that I have 👍 Thanks for that. I will totally agree that this cs needs water to shine. I like to drink the normal A'Bunnadh (my favourite batch 41 btw) even without water some times but this, needs a lot of water! I will also agree, I would like to see more ex-bourbon cs whiskies from sherry mature distilleries. Does it remind you at all Wild Turkey by the way? Great video👍 Cheers

I don’t know which batch you would consider the 124 Proof bottle but I had some recently purchased for $79.99 plus tax at Total Wine. This is an outstandingly structured, complex, and beautifully flavored Scotch.

@@WhiskyJason1 Your C/C+ grade is very harsh. I have not tasted as many whiskies as you have but I have tasted more expensive whiskies than most people, and I would give the Aberlour batch I tasted a B+/A-.

Jason: you didn't actually describe the Glencadam? OK, I realise it wasn't this vid's focus but still, I was curious for the comparison, and especially so given you said how well both whiskies revealed their respective distillates... although I suppose other Glencadams also show the distillate.

Ralfy, WhiskyWednesday, The Grail, Gwhisky, Whisky Fun, Dramface, whiskybase, et al. Perhaps I should rephrase: I was curious as to Jason's impression of the Glencadam distillate?😉 No matter, another time.👍

@@WhiskyJason1 Yes. Gaelic does that lots. Sometimes a vowel is added in speech between consonants. Like Glaschu (Glasgow) being pronounced "gla-sa-choo" with the ch like in loch. Actually I was reading that the Alba in this case refers to the species of oak, in which case it's not Gaelic at all..... slainte!
