I love her voice. Éabha is not just another soprano like so many of their singers but her Contralto is just the right touch of nasal sound with that Ronstadt wide range of ‘female up to soprano’.

Just saw their Christmas show a few weeks ago and Éabha sung this song. I'm so excited I got to hear it live. A long time ago I stumbled upon the Liam O Maonlaí version on The Highland Sessions and so was beyond thrilled to hear it sung by someone mainstream. I hope Éabha brings more traditional songs like this to Celtic Women!

My wife and I just saw Distant Lands a couple weeks ago with a friend. I honestly didn't know if I would like this group, but they went beyond my expectations! Of course I miss the former members, and I am still a big fan of theirs, but these girls and the crew put on a great show! That being said I agree with other posts that Éabha adds a very nice flavor to the group that is much needed. Her distinct tone of voice, plus her accent shows through in her singing. Just absolutely beautiful! There are more videos of her and Mairead singing together that are just raw, in front of a mic singing.

My favorite one is this one where he even sings with Lisa Lambe performing 'Dulaman. Now with the recent announcement of the new tour dates for "Celtic Woman - Homecoming", in 2018, makes one wonder what we'll actually see on PBS this holiday season. +Chris Tudor Usually PBS airs the concerts more than once during the holiday season. Apparently I missed the one and only airing in my area on Nov 17th. It aired before the lasses even announced it. So I'm pretty bummed about that. Now I'm in search to buy THIS year's concert tickets! Like Tom said, "Angels" was an awesome tour! Saw their 4th show in March in West Palm Beach, then Red Rocks in June (always an amazing venue), and finally their 2nd to last show in MA. But I have yet to meet any of them. That won't happen in 2018!

love this song, can anyone point me in the direction of the lyrics and how to pronounce them? I'd love to be able to sing along. TIA

Whoever translated Gaelge from runes to the english alphabet did a sh!tty job and was probably on crack. spoken Gaelge sounds NOTHING like how you think its gonna sound based on the spelling. For instance 't' is pronounced 'ch'. Like why don't you just put 'ch' instead. Written Gaelge needs a SERIOUS revamp...
@ItsmeeSaoirse3 жыл бұрын
@@-jank-willson Gaeilge is a much much older language than English. Compering the Irish language pronunciations to the english language is ridiculous, pointless and just plain wrong because Gaeilge and English do not share the same linguistic origins and they have absolutely nothing in common. Before you make ridiculous sweeping statements like this, do yourself a favour and do some background research. It will help you inform and educate yourself
@-jank-willson3 жыл бұрын
@@ItsmeeSaoirse LOL I was making a point about how it would be better for Gaelge to use its original 'runic' alphabet, rather than trying to get it to fit on the roman alphabet, or just straight-up revamp it in the roman alphabet. I was actually agreeing with you...
@philipbrennan42143 жыл бұрын
Catherine Fennell: Yes I can, the Irish lyrics are available in the following sites: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eGG6YZhtfrZrpJo and songsinirish.com/sadhbh-ni-bhruinneallaigh-lyrics/ The second site has English translatio with some interesting information on the origin of the song. Following the lyrics, it seems she is skipping over a lot of the words, and I can't hear Sadhbh (engl: 'Shive') anywhere? Maybe she has a different dialect? Ní iarrfainn bó spré le Sadhbh Ní Bhruinnealla, Ach Baile Inis Gé is cead éalú ar choinníní. Óra a Shadhbh, a Shadhbh Ní Bhruinnealla, A chuisle is a stóirín, éalaigh is imigh liom. Máistir báid mhóir mé a' gabháil ród na Gaillimhe, D'fhliuchfainn naoi bhfód is ní thóigfinn aon fharraige. Óra a Shadhbh, a Shadhbh Ní Bhruinnealla, Tabhair dom do lámhín, éalaigh is imigh liom. Máistir báid mhóir go deo ní ghlacfad, Nuair a fhaigheann siad an chóir 'sé is dóichí nach bhfanann siad. Óra a Shadhbh, a Shadhbh Ní Bhruinnealla, Tabhair dom do lámhín, éalaigh is imigh liom. Níl falach i gcabhail ar Shadhbh Ní Bhruinnealla, Ach seanchóitín donn gan cabhail gan muinchille. Óra a Shadhbh, a Shadhbh Ní Bhruinnealla, Tabhair dom do lámhín, éalaigh is imigh liom. Fear maith i mbád mé togha fear iomraimh, Fear sluaisid' is láí ar dhá cheann an iomaire. Óra a Shadhbh, a Shadhbh Ní Bhruinnealla, A chuisle is a stóirín, éalaigh is imigh liom!

I would ask no dowry for Sadhbh Ní Bhruinnealla, but the village of Inis Gé and a permit to hunt rabbits. Óra, Sadhbh, Sadhbh Ní Bhruinnealla, My heart's beloved, elope and leave with me. I'm the master of a húicéir on the way to Galway, I'd wet nine sods of turf but would not take any water in. Óra, Sadhbh, Sadhbh Ní Bhruinnealla, Give me your wee hand, elope and leave with me. The master of a hooker I'd never accept, when the wind is favourable they are not inclined to stay. Óra, Sadhbh, Sadhbh Ní Bhruinnealla, Give me your wee hand, elope and leave with me. Sadhbh is not wearing a stitch on her body, except an old brown coat without bodice or sleeve. Óra, Sadhbh, Sadhbh Ní Bhruinnealla, Give me your wee hand, elope and leave with me. I'm a good boatman, a fine oarsman, skillful with shovel or loy on either end of the ridge. Óra, Sadhbh, Sadhbh Ní Bhruinnealla, My heart's beloved, elope and leave with me.

The woman in the song is said to have been from Inishkea, (mentioned in the 1st verse) an island off Co. Mayo. I don't see any similarity between American folk songs and sean nós.
