The biggest difference between South Africa and India is the fact that South Africa is getting worse every year and India is getting better every year. 12:20, You rightly said. Despite South African people are having 3x per capita income than that of Indians, they are poor due to concentration of wealth to only a few people. Same goes for India as well. We do have GDP/capita at around $2.4k & $3 trillion dollar economy, but as well know, all those money are concentrated among only a handful number of billionaires. That's why Govt. provides free ration to 80 crore people and boast of it on the other hand various govt. report will say, We do have less than 20% BPL family!!! The more wealth our billionaires concentrate, more the GDP of the country increases. Now that increased GDP divided by population gives you an impressive figure of GDP per capita. But does that mean, every single people of the country is having same amount of money? So, in essence, GDP (nominal) can give you idea about a country's economic condition but GDP per capita is completely a misleading concept.
