13:00 Ma'am - you seem to have incorrectly understood the dharma of Dushyanta. Hunting was NOT about killing animals. It was about being fit for protection, killing surplus animals that hinder living. This is the nature of all animals i.e. if you venture into their territory, all animals attack. That is what Dushyanta is supposed to do. Also non-violence in itself is not a way of life. It is a sophistication.

You seem to present an interesting point of view. But you see, it is all a matter of perspective. What I mentioned very specifically is that within that protected space of the Hermitage, animals were an integral part and like family to the hermits. This protected magical world of almost a quasi-divine paradise is threatened and disturbed by the king's men and their noise. Nonviolence is not about sophistication. For the ascetics it was THE way of life. Their Hermitage was their space. The king might be an official protector but his actions of penetrating the sanctuary , and eventually Sakuntala's being is a violation of this sanctuary. Your point is interesting. But it does not refute my understanding. I do not impose any understanding. I prefer to ask open questions and use logical inferences open to interpretation. Thank you for your lovely observation. I am glad that you took the trouble to voice your disagreement. Literature is about cultivating diverse perspectives. I appreciate yours.
