Welcome to our first-time watching as we react to Abigail (2024).
Directed by Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin who are better known as Radio Silence the filmmaking collective they both are part of "Abigail" gives us the perfect balance between crazy unapologetic horror and surreal comedy gold!
A group of would-be criminals kidnaps the 12-year-old daughter of a powerful underworld figure. Holding her for ransom in an isolated mansion, their plan starts to unravel when they discover their young captive is actually a bloodthirsty vampire.
With a stacked cast starring Melissa Barrera, Dan Stevens, Kathryn Newton, Will Catlett, Kevin Durand, Angus Cloud, Giancarlo Esposito and finally Alisha Weir (who by the way absolutely steals the show). There's plenty of talent to go around and they definitely delivered some memorable performances.
Abigail was such a pleasant surprise and a really fun ride.

Yeah I must disagree that she was "so sweet and innocent" there....in fact it's literally the line that I feel makes you start to question if it's a hostagee turns hostage situation. Unfortunately I saw the trailers first, but I do believe the first one I saw was very good at making Abigail look like the victim and literally used that line to sow the seed of doubt while a couple seconds went by before the trailer tone flipped and it was obvious who the real victims were. I wish I didn't see the trailer for the same reason these people were warned about it

It was originally called ‘Dracula’s Daughter’. Honestly if they didn’t show that she was a vampire in the trailer I think calling it Abigail then having that ‘surprise’ reveal would have been freaking awesome 😂

They tried that in an original trailer, not revealing she was a vampire, and showed it to several test audiences and it bombed. No one knew what the movie was about and no one in the test audience wanted to see it When they revealed Abigail was a vampire in a new test trailer and showed it to the same test audiences, it got great reviews then

The “reveal” happened early in the movie and meant absolutely nothing, not even sure why people keep getting worked up about it. It changed absolutely nothing in experience for me. Movie was still pretty good.

Kevin Durand, the big, dumb one, is also Proximas Caesar in the new apes movie. He is a very underrated actor. The little girl was absolutely amazing! And Kathryn Newton, the blonde computer hacker, could definitely be one of the best scream queens. She was in Paranormal Activity 4, and was Castiel's (or his meat suit's), daughter on Supernatural.

The reason why they told you not to see the trailer first is because sadly the trailer shows you that the girl is a monster and a vampire so not seeing it makes you come into it blind and makes that twist so much more fun as well. Grate reaction guys and glad you liked this movie like I did.

It depends on which kind of audience the film is aiming for. The twist happens early enough into the film that it's more part of the set-up so knowing it didn't ruin anything for me.

And the first act of the story is constructed to make the viewer suspicious of all the members of the heist crew instead. Just because all the posters and trailers openly showed her being a vampire doesn't mean it's not a spoiler.

15:50: it’s funny you say that, because the police detective played the lead character in a little-known X-Men tv show called Legion. And while not X-Men, the rich, computer geek is plays Cassie Lang in the MCU, Abigail’s dad played Ozymandias in The Watchmen and Giancarlo Esposito just recently got hired for Captain America 4, but in an unknown role (his wish is to play Magneto and have Denzel Washington play Professor X)

Some of the lore is very similar to how White Wolf games do vampires. A full blood vampire (Abigail) can create either a ghoul or another vampire, a ghoul has some of the powers of a vampire but is basically under the control of the vampire that made them (Sammy). To become a full blooded vampire you need to be drained of blood and then given vampire blood (Frank), your body then 'dies', basically it purges all the human blood from the body, organs stop etc. This was the same in Interview With A Vampire. This makes sense to me it's not just from a bite, otherwise there would be so many vampires running around!

This is my favorite film of the year so far. And my favorite movie Radio Silence has done yet. And thats saying something because I am a huge fan of Ready Or Not and love what they did with the two Scream movies they've done. But this is their best work yet in my opinion. Fun Fact: This movie is actually a remake of the 1930s film “Daughter Of Dracula”, the sequel to Bela Legosi’s Dracula film (the daughter’s name is Abigail). The writers/directors confirmed that Abigail’s father is Dracula (as Lazaar implies he has gone by many names). That also makes this the THIRD Universal Dracula film the past 2 years!

The previews just gave it away and I think that the movie would have been a lot more successful if they hadn't. The same filmmakers that produced Abigail also did Ready or Not back in 2019. If you have not seen that one, I highly recommend it. The deaths in this movie are very reminiscent of that one. And it also takes place in a huge creepy mansion.

"He's a gentle giant," I mean... Peter did pull a gun on who he thought was an innocent 12 year old girl he'd helped kidnap, with the intention of beating and/or torturing her. I also believe he was the first one to mention potentially having to kill Abigail after she'd seen Frank's face so even though he had a sweet relationship with Sammy, he wasn't exactly kind & gentle.

This movie was phenomenal!!! I saw it with a group of friends who wouldn’t stop talking while we were in the living room with the lights on, and even they could take away my enjoyment from this film!!! It was so good!! I wish I saw it in theaters

When I saw this movie I looked around online to find out what I could about it and apparently they never planned on making any more movies which completely baffled me. You could easily make many movies off this with sequels and prequels which I truly hope that they do. There was something that bothered me the first time that I watched it aka how come Frank didn't turn back into a regular human after he killed the vampire that turned him. According to the regular vampire lore when you kill the vampire that bit you and made you then you could revert back to being human (if you wanted). After re-watching it I saw that Abigail bit Frank when they kidnapped her, so then it made sense (I missed it the first time because I was busy eating pizza & drinking lol).

If you haven’t, watch the Guest. Do not look into anything about it before. All I’m saying is the guy who plays the cop in this is in it. He was also in Downton Abbey and Beauty and the Beast! So he has a fairly large range!

I almost didn't see what turned out to be a good movie because of the trailer. Trailers frequently ruin movies. "Watch this movie with a stunning twist, that we're going to spoil in this trailer!" My only regret is that they can't make a real sequel, since Abigail doesn't age.

59:53 We need like a good vampire story where a vampire is a vampire. See Renfield. (2023) It's the most over the top flipping bonkers vampire film I've seen. You could probably call the old Tarantino film From Dusk till Dawn a warm up for it. Jennifer's Body and Jeepers Creepers probably aren't technically vampires but they're a pretty similar new type of unspecified monster. October is in 4 months if you want to schedule these out a bit for a in theme month of reactions.

I would have been more excited to see this if I hadn't seen the commercial first. I have to say the acting is phenomenal, but a little girl ripping people apart just wasn't believable the way they did the action, it was more scary before the kid started killing.I think they should have dragged the main plot points out, and have the girl be a more subtle vampire before coming out and ripping people apart. Also, ballet is rich in lore and music and filled with haunting things other than swan lake.
