Abingdon 1970 festival GWR branchline running

Trains were run specially for the festival'70 on what was essentially a closed branchline from Radley to Abingdon station. Although closed to passenger traffic the line was still used for goods trains carrying cars from the MG factory for some years to come. This footage was shot by Bernard Loach using an 8mm cine camera.

Interesting movie, I was there on that day, I remember the station being tidied in preparation. I was told they wanted to use a steam loco, but the one they had at that time was not suitable for the sharp curves.

Such a shame this is all gone. Only thing left is the BR style concrete pillar wire fences, all rusted and mashed, tracing the line footprint.
