Yeus. We Here at Moonstone Manse, or Manse on sea, like to say we concentrate on components. It’s a known fact that moonstone can be used to replace almost any spell component the question is: how much and what spells.
We’re doing a segment on schools of magic, and I’ve heard you are particularly well schooled in abjuration magic.
Yeus. Hwil it’s no secret that moonstone works especially well in the abjuration school. And by default I suppose I have become somewhat of a specialist in the field. I even teach Abjuration 102 from time to time.

Hmm true, but what's cool is if your ward is up you can use it without blowing a spell slot. Or if your abjuration ward is down you can use shield instead! That's pretty neat (but Tomite yeah that's my oversight)

Absorb Elements, too. Although the usefulness of that diminishes when you get the high level ability to just have Resistance to spell damage, but it's still useful against, say, a dragon's breath weapon.

"What's a wizard going to use their reaction for in combat?" Shield and Counterspell are both reactions, abjurations, and widely regarded as some of the best spells in 5E. Abjurers are also really good with said Counterspells.

I think you missed the point. He meant that giving others shield uses a reaction, which is ok, since the wizard wont get much out of an attack of opportunity anyways.

Counterspell- pretty handy, only against spellcasters. Shield- +5 ac is legit, but high ac doesn't always work, especially in high levels. I love those spells too but they don't solve all problems. ward however, is more versatile, doesn't require spell slots and at level 6 you can bounce it between your buddies. Overall, you probably wouldn't want to blow your reactions too early and be more tactical with reactions than other wizards, thats it.

So I like the idea for this series, and I like the schtick where each school has a different host. The only drawback is that it doesn't get into the Wizard spells for each School and how these might matter (eg: Grim Harvest is a nice bonus, but not many low level Necromancy spells actually cause damage). I get that there's a LOT of wizard spells, but for some Schools there's a manageable number (eg: There are only three 1st level Divination spells, and they are all rituals, so taking advantage of the Savant discount isn't going to eat into spell slots) which you could highlight briefly

I loved this, Zee. Animation and sound were hilarious, and it was a particularly timely subject for me. In the current campaign we're playing, my cleric just had to leave the party, as he lost his connection with his deity, and with it, his powers. When my cleric left, I first thought, "Maybe I'll just make a different domain cleric, or a paladin or something, so I can keep supporting and shielding them." But then, I found the abjuration wizard. The reaction ward was enough to sell me. "I CAN PROTECT MY FRIENDS." But after looking through the Wizard spell list, his Syndicate Mage code name became "Aegis," because I've taken as many support and utility spells to protect my party and make us all as hard to kill as I could possibly manage--things like Shield, Mage Armor, Blur, Misty Step, Counterspell, Greater Invisibility, Fly, Haste, Slow, Mirror Image, Stone Skin. My DM let me choose an abjuration spell from any class as a homebrew idea, so I also grabbed Armor of Agathys. All this utility makes him a sincere annoyance. His only damage-dealing spell is Firebolt. Playing him is a gigglefest.

A weeeeeird fellow, but he's right about how good Abjuration is. Heck, I even forgot about the ritual aspect playing a part. Beyond that... you're the best at magic countering far and away- maybe dip into bard to get a little boost there from jack of all trades down the line. And Abjurers are great at concentration, since the mentioned ward takes damage first- not you- meaning you don't even have to make concentration checks until that ward breaks and if you take a huge enough hit to smash through it in one chances are it'll have a lot lower check than usual to deal with. Because of this you can count most on the abjurer to handle an important spell over time be it damage based, a buff, or anything else. A particularly defense oriented abjuration specialist can even make an excellent guard for an important individual such as a king, because their ward can defend their charge when even their counter and dispel magic can not. Not to mention it's already a defense oriented school in other ways.

One of my favorite builds: Goliath Fighter 1/ Warlock 1/Abjurer 18, plus heavy armor master feat. You get to spam high-level armor of agathys, and drastically increase its longevity with arcane ward and damage reduction. Load up on abjurations, cast fog cloud to negate ranged attacks, and become a nightmarish opponent who just won't die, but ruins lives with wizard spells if left alone. Not i just need to get to play it for more that half a session...

As an Abjurer myself, I must object--Improved Abjuration doesn't give you advantage; it allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the roll. Also, you missed a perfectly good opportunity to mention the almighty Counterspell when talking about reactions for an Abjurer!

Ah, abjuration! Not my most used school- that would be conjuration, but you never summon something you can't control, and abjuration is usually what I fall back on if a summon gets unruly.

Now that Tasha's is out, there's something even more broken then rituals for an Abjurer: Eldritch Initiate (Armor of Shadows). At the most, you'd need a few mins of recasting it over and over between fights to recharge your shield, in contrast to rituals that can take long enough to require the rest of the party be enjoying a short rest. Course, that's not the only way to break the game by combining Wizard and EI. Illusionist with Misty Visions? The second you hit level 14, you are indistinguishable from a Green Lantern (and barely less before then).

I can't actually find any ways to use moonstone in D&D 5E. Can someone help me out? I looked into the forgotten realms lore & it says it can be used in certain spells, but beyond that the stats of the moonstone & everything else out there shows me nothing. Can someone please help me out here?
