"Paint It, Black” by The Rolling Stones
Producer: Andrew Loog Oldham
Composers: Mick Jagger and Keith Richards
Lyricists: Mick Jagger and Keith Richards
Associated Performers: Mick Jagger, Brian Jones, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Bill Wyman
Lyrics:
I see a red door and I want it painted black
No colors anymore I want them to turn black
I see the girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes
I have to turn my head until my darkness goes
I see a line of cars and they're all painted black
With flowers and my love both never to come back
I see people turn their heads and quickly look away
Like a new born baby it just happens every day
I look inside myself and see my heart is black
I see my red door, I must have it painted black
Maybe then I'll fade away and not have to face the facts
It's not easy facin' up when your whole world is black
No more will my green sea go turn a deeper blue
I could not foresee this thing happening to you
If I look hard enough into the settin' sun
My love will laugh with me before the mornin' comes
I see a red door and I want it painted black
No colors anymore I want them to turn black
I see the girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes
I have to turn my head until my darkness goes
I wanna see your face, painted black
Black as night, black as coal
I wanna see the sun flying high in the sky
I wanna see it painted, painted, painted, painted black
Yeah!
“Paint It, Black (Official Lyric Video)”

The first 7 seconds of this song are so haunting and immediately draw you into the song. Brian Jones was a genius instrumentalist. In 50 years people will still be listening to The Rolling Stones and appreciating their genius.

People usually fail to understand just how early the Rolling Stones were. This song came out in the 60's! Can you imagine how it felt to hear a song like this in a decade when people were still listening to Elvis?

Absolutely indisputable. So much better than most at the time... And somehow the fact that they were Brittish makes it so much more unlikely. Man they must have just been off the charts cool to the brittish, no offence to brittain, but cool just wasnt your strong suit. Well i guess its still not, but thanks for the stones.

When I first saw the Stones I was hooked. Get Off of My Cloud was the winner💯 this song came out just before my birthday in 1966, May. It became a theme song for me when my brother got killed in Vietnam 1969 3 years later. Black has been my favorite color ever since. The counterculture that the stones represented transcended decades and has continued on through today for even the younger people that have listened to their music. Mick and Keith will always be two of the better songwriting Duos in Rock and Roll history.😉🤘

@@warrenhughes6484 Cool. I know what you're talking about with skiffle in the UK. We called it mainly folk in the USA. I thought Charlie only played in jazz groups before the Stones , 'though.Good to know more about him. I've been a fan since about 1964 and a super fan since Satisfaction in 1965 and I especially loved Charlie , 2nd only to Mick.I could always pick him out in grainy photos in Tiger Beat magazine even though he was usually trying to hide. My older brother on leave from the Army heard Paint It Black and asked me who was that on drums and that he was really good.My brother could play and sing almost anything ( and had a real garage band which played in bars ---- which our parents disapproved of ). He loved drumming and had all of Buddy Rich's albums then.He didn't like the Stones but recognized Charlie's huge talent from the beginning. ------ Sharon in South Florida.

I’m french, I have to make a présentation for my cinema class around this music. I’ll have to sing it and act a scenario I wrote myself on the music. This is about a musician that have his personnality and loves his art, but he got haters, that want him to stop wear read and want him to wear black instead. At first he doesn’t care that much, but it hurt him that so many peoples want him to change so bad. So he does. He paint his shirts in black, and the next concert he appears in black, acting like he’s never been better, but he’s not really fine. And at the end he sits alone and regret his past himself. I’ll cover myself in true black paint (gouache) tomorrow, wish me good luck ! ⭐️🩸⚫️

@@bobmafias4159 I sorry. My father came back after three years in Vietnam. He came out of his heroin fog sometimes when the PTSD hit him. He once drove the car with me in it into a canal because he was screaming Charlie was behind us. They found a bunch of needles in the glove box when they got us and then the car out. My mom left him for that and I saw him once more before he died. He was shooting heroin sublingually because all his views were shot and he could only get his neck in one spot or under his tongue. He eventually, inevitably, overdosed and his pain was finally over. War does horrific things to the ones who die there and also to the ones who come back.

Such horrible stories. I dont know much about the Vietnam war or trauma caused by war in general. But i feel like there should be more attention for it. I recently watched apocilipse now, and hearing these stories makes me see the movie differently.

@pizzarollsinurhair from the totally opposite standpoint , my son grew up listening to my Stones stuff , I bought him a toy guitar and he (5 yrs old ) used to walk around the house strumming with a rolled up piece of paper hanging out of his mouth ( keith's cigarette )... F Fwd June 22 I took him to see the Stones at Hyde Park , right up by the stage . Some emotions you just cant put into words .... what a day that was .... I don't know YOU from Adam , just make sure your boy grows up knowing this music . Some bonds can't be broken .

I remember our family going to a restaurant back in the 60's and my mom gave me and my sister each a dime to play a song on the juke box.. I was trying to be cool and saw The Rolling Stones so picked this song never having heard it. My sister said "you won't like it". Me being the obstinate little shit I was said yes I will. Well, the song freaked me out but then I had to pretended I liked it just to spite her. It was current so i would have been 6 or 7. As I grew older it did become a favorite but I have never forgot that first hearing.

I listen to this when I'm deeply depressed. I used to think it reminded me of the love other people have for me, but I think it actually reminds me of the love that's already inside me. It makes sense. This song isn't going to suddenly rewire my brain to feel loved by others. In the moment, my mind can only work with what it already has.
