I've been a LIVE user since 7 and this is easily the best video I've watched about LIVE 10 to REALLY get into the tiny workflow improvements that make a huge difference to those of us that spend hours a day on Ableton Live. I even attended the Live LOOP conference in Berlin this year and your video gave me wayyyy more practical ground level info about Live 10. There is always the temptation with each new iteration of a software to just show all the big flashy improvements or new instruments but for those of us who have used Live for many years, your explanation of the tiniest features has compelled me more than anything else to pre-order my upgrade to 10. New browser and editing functionalities all combine to make it yet again another game changer for me. These things are so much more important to me then some flashy new synth. There are already so many amazing sounds and plug-ins to work with that I could spend the rest of my life getting to know just a few of them intimately. It's the workflow improvements with what I am already using that make all the difference in the world. Also this might seem silly and sort of a small point but your voice is not annoying to listen to. It is very calm and friendly. I don't like to hate on anyone but sometimes the person doing the video is so annoying that the information is lost or they just take way too long over explaining everything. I just subscribed to your channel and I look forward to checking out other videos

+Hans Eberbach you are exactly the kind of person I was trying to reach with this video. I just wanted to describe each new addition, show a shot demo of how it works and then quickly speculate how it will be useful. I agree with you too. All these small tweaks mean more to me than new flashy features. I'm glad you found this video and I hope it helped you out. Thanks for subscribing and welcome to the channel :)

Very nice for tweaking a riser or sound design when you're distorting and automating a long sine wave for example. It takes too long to listen from the beginning every time. Such a huge time save. You'll just have to make sure you're doing stuff with automation and not plug in envelopes for long notes.

Very in depth video of Live 10 new features. I was reluctant to update on my Live 9 version just yet, but instead of spending a big buck on a new Mac, i simply upgraded it, bought 8gb memory a 500gb SSD and a new battery for just about $200 bucks. It now runs smoothly and could finally update to Live 10. Thank you for this Slinks, you just got a new subscriber!

Without a doubt the BEST Ableton 10 overview video I've seen. Superb job Slynk! Concise, informative, straight to the point, yet comprehensive, showcasing the features Ableton users care most about. I still would have liked to see them implement a track comping or playlist system and group editing/mixing, but anyway, it feels like they listened to the community and delivered on much needed changes. Can't wait!
@Slynk
@Slynk 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks man. Can you please explain comping to me and why it's so important? Can't you just record multiple takes on different channels in a group for example.. and then chop your fav parts out to make a comp track? Why do we need a special feature to do this stuff? Also, recording in a loop in arrangement view will just continue making a longer and longer file so you can just move the loop marker in the clip to find the best take.

Well, i can say imo that is exactly what i need - i don't need revolutionary products - i need evolutionary products - make the workflow that i know more easy, more fast, add the features that needed to be added or improved. I'm sold. Thanks a ton for the video!

It's crazy how such small feature updates are huge quality-of-life improvements. For example, I do a lot of stem mixing in Ableton and the whole "assign group colour to tracks" is a HUGE deal for me. Instead of independently selecting colours for the tracks, group and clips... Jeeze. Good video!

Thanks Evan, I picked up some handy tips here. One of my fav features is similar to editing multiple midi clips at once, but with audio because you can warp multiple files at the same time. It makes warping acapellas a breeze if you have the instrumental to line up all the transients perfectly.

How to change your metronome sound by your own sound : 1/ Take 2 same sample sounds who during one second or less with 2 different keys Exemple : Sample 1 in "C" and Sample 2 in "C#" 2/ Re-name sample 1 "Metronone" and sample 2 "MetrononeUp" 3/ Go to > C:\Program Files\Ableton\Live\Resources\Misc\Metronome\Samples 4/Save old samples in a file and replace them by your own new samples. I read the patch notes top to bottom and made notes on all the cool new features to use as a script for this video. I think the little things like this are the more important tweaks. The new wavetable instrument is pretty hype but I got a whole folder of 3rd party instruments you know? Speeding up workflow is much more valuable in the long run.

DrumBus Effect seems very nice. It's nice that transient shaping meanwhile got it's own effects and plugins. I believe it takes a lot of work from the compressors. What I dig especially, tbh, that the DrumBus finally has an element where you can read the note from a frequency knob. I always wished they would add this feature to their spectrum, because it is the only reason I mostly grab SPAN instead for single channels.

I looks like they've cover near every little thing I didn't like about Ableton or in that matter any DAW for music creation. The fact there are BUSes now (in a round about way) was the first game changer for me, but then when I looked a a little bit more it had added things I wish all DAW's had, and now, this video, it has almost everything. All it need now is a MIX mod that uses a better engine for mix session. I still need another DAW for the better overall blending of the sounds. Then again, Mixing and Mastering is always better left to someone else. Great Video!!! Thank you!

One thing everyone's been asking for from day one. Can you assign a specific plugin window to remain open until you manually with the mouse close the window? This is so you can e.g. keep a master channel oscilloscope or spectrum plugin window open and not have it react to your shortcut to show/hide plugins.

I was on the fence about getting Ableton after seeing the official Live 10 ad, but this convinced me that I'm gonna love Live 10. Still a shame that there's no dedicated mixer view or proper comp editing yet.. oh well, every DAW has its compromises, I suppose. Cheers for the detailed walkthrough!
@Slynk
@Slynk 6 жыл бұрын
I would consider Session View as a dedicated mixer view, especially if you drag up and expand the meters. I'd be interested in hearing what improvements you would make to the mixer. I don't even know why everyone had their panties in a knot over comp editing. Whats so hard about dragging selections from different take to a new channel? I just don't understand what Ableton users are really missing out on here.
@bluegh0st102
@bluegh0st102 6 жыл бұрын
Well in Reaper for example, in the mixer view you can see your plugin chains across multiple channels simultaneously. It's good to get a bird's eye view of all your mix processing. This is Reaper's mixer prntscr.com/h5lepp (in one of my projects). As far as comp editing, yeah it's more of a convenience thing, but it's really nice to have. Makes recording and editing vocals go soo much smoother.
@nuurnwui
@nuurnwui 6 жыл бұрын
Since it's so much more convenient to comp in my other DAW (Cubase), I record there when I know I have to comp a lot. No dragging in different lanes, no dragging them back into one, just a few clicks with the dedicated comping tool and I can always fold away the comping lines if I'm not in the mood. And there is horizontal comping in Live, but I can't usually use it on long vocal takes. See illfactor's vid here on YT
