Another tip on warping: When you have a clip that's very messy and can't be auto-warped, try warping in larger resolutions and shrink until needed. I warped an old solo jazz guitar to the beat by making sure every 4- or sometimes even 8-bar phrase landed where it should, then doing adjustments within. It came in handy as the song had dramatic speed up and slow down embellishments within it and I was able to smash the whole thing down to a consistent bpm. By keeping the big picture and starting with broad strokes it's more like chipping away from marble than putting together a lego set. Also you preserve more of the tune's timing by theoretically warping less of it.

Jeremy! You’re actually a musical saint. Your knowledge and wisdom is such a gift. Honestly I think I’d watch hours and hours of your just touring how all the features of ableton can be used. Your style, approach, and choice of samples are all so cool, calm and enjoyable to watch! Learning my way round ableton with your advice is an absolute pleasure that I try and dedicate my time after work to :) Thanks for the exciting and relaxing time I get to take after working on deadlines absolutely ruins me 😅

To organize the different types of groove in folders go to the user library folder (the real folder not the one in the ableton live browser) open the groove folder and make your own organized folders inside of it. Start ableton live and you should see the folders in the browser.

A buddy and I are getting into music making with ableton, we're both beginners and currently getting to know the software. I wouldn't even have dared imagining audio quantization was a thing... Mind = blown. You probably just saved us hours worth of recording sessions !! Love all your other videos, thank you for all the great content and music sharing.

Great video Jeremy, keep this series going if you can. Once you get all the way done with warp modes maybe you can move on to a different feature in ableton and do a deep dive on that as well. The way you teach us is great.

My next task with Octatrack is to figure out PARTS and putting some crazy quantize onna loop, is def a easy secondary part. i'm working on getting audio warped for octatrack days worth of songs to go thru.
@isaacanthonydj41242 жыл бұрын
if you know the BPM of the song you're warping, and have labeled that down in the area where that goes, ableton seems to have better luck with warping properly...
@isaacanthonydj41242 жыл бұрын
so instead of ableton asking if you wanted to warp the song at the current BPM, put it at that song BPM and ableton will ask if you want to warp it at that BPM, YES SIR!
@isaacanthonydj41242 жыл бұрын
every song i'm warping, i have labeled the BPM and KEY of the song, so when it goes in octatrack, it should all be cake! LoL

This was a great refresher for me! Thanks Warping is indeed powerful for design. I actually didn't know about 'crop sample' doing that in Sampler. Big tip 🤜 One thing about those different grooves is that the groove templates also at times affect Velocity of the individual hits. And yes that triplet groove was awesome on that break 👏

Regarding the part where you were saying you would need to go through the long sample that wasnt working and place markers throughout; i find it's usually easier to just turn warp mode off and drag the transpose cents value to match it to the metronome like a DJ beatmatching. If you find it tricky ou can look at the waveforms and place downbeats on the grid. Once the track is in time you can then put warp mode back on if you need to do any fine tuning.

At 9:00 you answer a questions ive always had but never investigated: does groove pool swing audio even though theres little-to-no warp markers? Seems the answer is yes, which is very useful.
@RedMeansRecording3 жыл бұрын
It needs transient markers
@khalylehagood32223 жыл бұрын
@@RedMeansRecording Is there a minimal amount, like 2? It appears as though the swing is more granular than the warp markers in this section, swinging the 16th's when the markers are measures. Feel free to not answer since I could always test this when I get off work.

when warping long clips and trying to figure out the right tempo i prefer moving markers at 1, 4 or 8 bars, it gets soooo much easier than trying with the offbeat, it seems so painful
@iamsushi10563 жыл бұрын
It’s fun to warp, especially with weird swings, then resample it and set it to repitch warp, and warp it back to a straight beat with that. I’ve actually generated whole melodies this way.

Hey Jeremy, I have a question regarding the quantization parameterization. I have this on my model:cycles as well and I don't really fully understand what it does. I mean a value of 100% (or 127 for the M:C) is clearly that everything is fully quantized and 0 doesn't do a thing however, what does the values in between do? Does it scale it linearly ? Meaning that for a value of 50% everything is right in between the original and the 'perfect' timing? Or does it scale it by a fixed amount, up to the point where it aligns with the grid? And why would you want such an in-between setting anyway? What does it do rhythmically? Thanks! Great video as always btw ;-)
