Abner Jay was a one of a kind and he was as real as it got. RIP.

It was a-thunderin’ and a-thunderin’ and lightnin’ On the day this a-poor boy was a-born I ain’t never known nothin’ but your trouble Well your trouble and your hate and scorn My daddy died in a train wreck (pronounced "rake") My momma she was born to lose My natural born name is trouble My middle name is the blues My middle name is the blues I see the corner lights shinin’ from your windows Of your three hundred thousand dollar homes Well uh I ain’t got no home Cause the blues were meant to roam Oh yeah, the blues were meant to roam It was a-thund’in’ and a-thund’in’ and lightnin’ On the day that some poor boy was a’born I ain’t never known nothin’ but your trouble Well your trouble and your hate and scorn My daddy died in a train wreck My momma she was born to lose My middle name is natural born trouble My last name is the blues My last name is the blues

This isn't from the recordings I made a few months before his death. My recording was Abner and his guitar in his trailer late in the evening. I needed a recording to give the studio so they could properly prepare for the session. We had to cancel the session scheduled for due to his illness. Abner passed away in September or October at the Augusta Veteran's Hospital where I last visited with him.

Does anybody know when this was actually recorded? It sounds extremely similar to some Tom Waits stuff and I'm wondering who was listening to whom- probably the latter got the sound from Abner Jay, but I'm still curious!

Jen's Kamp soungs like that place in Belgium where they made all the used-up victims of Hooman Transporting into export-pirogies like they used to export to the American market back around 1990. Huh,? New things ever day, what?, 😌
