Such a beautiful and poignant song. It has me wondering how close to Roberts life this song is. We, as fans, hold our idols up and indeed put them on thrones and don't want them to leave. Wonderful song.

I get the odd feeling that this is one of those Abney Park songs that's very personal to you Captain. It feels... different than the others though. This feels more raw.... It's not so cloaked in typical Abney Park mystique (not at all saying that Abney Park Mystique is a bad thing)... Instead it feels almost to me as if you're kind of doing some soul searching.... Looking inside of yourself here. I like it Captain... It is very relate-able.. makes you think... I like songs like that.

I saw Abney Park live in Michigan, my first ever concert. The band, while nice, were clearly exhausted and didn't really want to do much with us, the fans. But they did, and we were still happy to meet them despite the lukewarm reception. I'm guessing they're done doing live (in-person) shows now, and I get it. They don't seem like they enjoy the crowd like some bands do. This song brings to mind Robert's tired-but-trying face from that day, for me. "But there is nothing else."

I have listened to this song with my own Children for nearly five years now. It might be a little dark but we feel it has really kindled the imagination and the desire to sing in both of them. There are a variety of Abney park songs that have fallen into bedtime music and even some that have gotten both my toddlers to get up and dance. It has been a wild ride with these songs and I love every single one. Thank you for the blessing that is your music.

You created to escape, to be free. You grew with it. They loved you, you had to love it. But if it becomes your jail, nothing but sorrow awaits you. Long live to your imagination, the only sovereign, and long may it live and prosper. Love and support.

When I was a kid, my imaginary world was much like Abney Park's world, when I was a teenager and started working, I found Abney Park on youtube and often listened to them, to go back to my imaginary world. As the world falls apart, I looked up Abney Park after YEARS and found this. So, if you're reading this, I love you. I'm glad we shared the same imaginary world together, Captain Roberts. It really was much better then the real world.

After listening to this song a few times I only just remembered what I'd forgotten. When I was younger and everything would get to be too much, I'd find somewhere quiet, put in headphones, close my eyes, and let myself get lost in my imagination. It was indeed, much better than being here. I'd kept the ideas that were borne from these little excursions, but I'd forgotten where they'd come from.

Why the fuck does this only have 78k views?!? First time hearing this.. and I will hear it a million more before I die. This song brings me nostalgic feelings of other music I used to love growing up, almost like the second half of my life includes this in it's album to perfectly compliment the album from the first half. I will probably have this song play at my funeral.

Is this a song about you Robert? Are you this king and is this imaginary world you create with your music? As fans if you ever need to take a break to focus on yourself and your family you should take it and we will understand

I thought something similar, but about the band as a whole. "Is Abney Park preparing to move away from steampunk?"
@drunkenprayer83908 жыл бұрын
I kind of thought of it as a sequel/companion to Letters Between a Little Boy and Himself as an Adult. They both share similar themes and if you read the Wrath of Fate novel it ties in to the story Robert has created about the band and his character, which may be slightly autobiographical but I honestly don't know.

Buy the Anachronomicon from their web store and listen to the introspections. The LBALB one tells a very interesting story about that.

My poets quill may be a mare echo of every other voice that has sung the praises of this masterpiece, yet I must say it. This song. Hits home. Hits very close to home. The inspiration behind the song seems to be based on a real individual. I can tell you that at least in the part of becoming a king that could be very true, I based this on the historical knowledge that most probably one of my ancestors “El CID” Rodrigo Rui Diaz de Vivar refused to be king already knowing what would happen to him and his beloved wife and children. Yes, as a former infantry soldier I can tell you I lived in my own world of inventions to escape my own demons which were unstoppable at the time… So it is no surprise that I love your music guys, “The Steampunk” style and stories. But I recommend to face those demons fight them, so you can come out wiser and stronger, great music Cptn Robert and crew!

brings up the feeling of personal story. This theme is... important to me in many ways, as I love to sing, draw and read. Many don't get my passion for art at all, but I can't explain it with other words than love. I also have read the book 'Wrath of Fate' and loved the rough, realistic style of the story as if it really was real. I will order the other books too, when I have gathered enough money. All I can say to Abney Park is thank you. Thank you for all the stories you have told and the greatest time travel story I've ever read. Thank you for your music and your passion.

WOW! This is amazing. Beautiful and wonderful. Lyrically and visually are stunning, love those illustrations. You've set yourselves a high bar here, but i believe you still have much more talent to show to keep rising the bar. Your voice was so emotional, for a moment i thought it was Sting and Peter Gabriel singing as one thats how amazing your singing is. The piano was a perfect compliment to you and loved the little guitar build up before the chorus. The song sounds personal, either you or someone close, just adds more emotion to the song. Can't wait to hear the whole album!
