I rather liked the House MD answer to the "death predicting cat." In the show, no one could figure out how the cat kept picking out the people who were about to die. Then Sherlock House (of course) figured out that when people were approaching death, they were given heating blankets as their bodies were cooling. The cat was going to them for the warmth.💙
@ladylove8565
@ladylove8565 Ай бұрын
I was gonna make a comment about this too but cats like their temperature to be above what most humans are comfortable with which is why they enjoy being in snuggled in warm places. Apparently when a person is about to die the body temperature will increase therefore they are my much warmer so kitties may be more attracted to that as well in the nursing home situation
@DravenGal
@DravenGal Ай бұрын
@ladylove8565 Ah, you may be right, I may have gotten that detail wrong. But some people get colder as their blood pressure and heart slow down, don't they? And get chillls? So a heat source would make sense...

@@DravenGal3 feverish, 8 heating blankets, so everyone gets a point! Don't know why I remember that, guess it was just interesting because I see so many pictures of cats sitting on nice warm laptops.

Cats have been known to ‘smell’ illness in their owners tho, including cancers and strokes. And I recently saw a Dodo video on a cat who wasn’t terribly happy with the newborn his owners had and generally ignored him until one day he just started sitting near the baby and howling. The mother took the baby to the hospital and it turns out he had an upper respiratory infection. They really are just amazing creatures (and amazingly hilarious too.)
@DravenGal

@Jamietheroadrunner Yes, it's amazing how cats, dogs, and even some other animals can smell or otherwise sense an illness in humans, or an attack of some kind. I'm so glad they caught the baby's illness!

Ohhhh this video was fabulous ❤ My cat Tobacco used to use the loo self taught too. He's on my old KZbin channel about 15 years ago. It used to be so funny, middle of the night there would be a click clack of the loo seat and then you'd hear him peeing away 😂😂😂 He only got to 12 poor lad due to complications from epilepsy, kidney failure and overactive thyroid. Cats are bloody awesome 😍 Love Pallas cats too, their expressions are very like my elderly girl Padre gives out. Mind at 21 she's allowed to be grumpy sometimes ❤😂❤

The sad thing about some of these "unusual" cats is that certain breeds inherently suffer due to their traits being caused by genetic issues. Manx and other naturally tailless cats have musculoskeletal issues. Scottish folds have a cartilage malformation that results in lifelong painful arthritis. Munchkins have a genetic defect so that when two are bred together, the kittens won't survive. Plus they have their own set of musculoskeletal problems that may make life harder for them. Sphinx and lycoi/werewolf cats often have skin issues and trouble staying clean without regular baths. All the short-faced breeds (British shorthair, Persian, Himalayan, etc.) have an inclination toward respiratory issues, similarly to short-faced dog breeds. But people breed them because they are regarded as cute or convenient to people (i.e. munchkins can't jump up to countertops, sphinx cats are viewed as hypoallergenic).

My daughter has a Manx cat. Got her when she was 8 weeks old. She's in her early to mid teens now. First time we took her to the vet, evidently he'd never heard of or seen a Manx before and kept asking what happened to her tail. Told him she doesn't have one. He was like, yea but how did she lose it. She never had one, she was born that way. He didn't believe us at first. But anyway, yea she's got longer hind legs and bunny hops. Her name is Blue but we often call her Blue Bunny.

I used to own a cat that was polydactyl (meaning paws were bigger due to more claws and a genetic issue) that had 16 claws in one paw. We would have to take her to the vet to get her claws cut because she wouldn't let us cut them at all. One time she was playing with my mom and got her claw stuck in my mom's hand. I had to manually pull it out for her. She was dripping blood when she ran to the sink.

My cat once gave birth to a kitten whose front paws were turned inwards. Sadly, due to a tragic accident the kitten died a few days later, or I would've still had her to this day. Another cat born from that same mother (who was a calico) had the typical big colored splotches of a calico, but her orange and brown splotches also had visible stripes. She was so adorable and unique. Also very sadly, she got out one day and never returned... she was the most affectionate cat I've ever had and I miss her dearly. 💔

Our "Mr. Kitty" weighed over 20 pounds but was proportionally normal (not overweight). He was an indoor/outdoor cat who hunted small animals whenever he was outside. We had hardly any squirrels, rabbits, and even birds in our yard. Regarding Oscar (the 'death' cat), the general consensus is that he can detect some odor or chemical emitted by people as they near death to which he responds.

I was hoping someone would post a reference to Tenshi Muyo! My kids loved that show! (So did I!) I wanted to name the stray calico kitten, who showed up at our door, Ryoko because I knew she would be a demon-goddess. She ran into the house and demanded we take care of her. My husband overruled me and named her Penny. I was right. She was beautiful and a bit of a demon. She was the most entitled cat I've ever known. I've been owned by calicos and tortoiseshells before, but Penny had "tortitude" on steroids. Sadly, she left us way too soon.

At 19.40-something: My cat did that too. I had him for ten years, back in 1970;ies, and in his second year, we heard some weird noises from the "second", smaller toilet. It was him, using the bowl, and as that cat in the film "flushed the toilet", by scratching on the heater element. So, I had to make a "device" to keep the door slightly open, and the on the credit side, we never had to clean a litter box. A win-win. What comes to those"cute" bunnycats: One idiot of breeder, I think it was in Texas, tried to breed on a abnormality, a cat with 2cm front paws. Fortunately, America Cat Breeders, put a immediate stop to that, an took her license to breed anything, ever, again. I thought he was a one of a kind, but nice to know, there are more clever felines, out there. from a Former Maine Coon breeder, and yes, a serious one.

We've had a cat that somehow knew her own death. She had jumped up onto my parents bed and mewed like she wanted to say something like I love you and wanted to be petted a lot. She never wanted "that" amount of attention before. Then she broke in a seizure and high fever. We do not know what caused it but after that event.....she just dies. That was weird and sad. We think she had a sense she was ending. She was 15 years old.

I think many if not most cats can predict death. Dogs too.

I’m definitely believe the cat had some sort of sensory output to alert them that certain people were about to go It’s also been documented that some dogs can smell cancer and have even saved their owners who had no idea they had cancer. I don’t doubt the cat nursing home story one bit

The cat peeing in the toilet! I know it’s possible cuz I’ve seen it happen before! Like 20 years ago now, my boyfriend at the time had a short haired black cat named Loki & she always did that! No training, nothing! I’ve seen her do it too! I always tried to have my phone ready to get a video but could never catch it in time. Btw, Loki loved me but hated him & I’ve always been a cat person. He was a horrible ex too… Also, I’m familiar with the Oscar cat story. It’s more sweet than scary. The cat possibly senses somehow that it’s almost time for someone & is there to keep them company until the end. I see it as comforting for those lonely final moments before anyone else even realizes it’s your time. It’s actually very wholesome! ❤

*The following are the musings of a Salty SEAGULL named EARL who just shows up in my posts whenever he feels like it!* [EARL the Salty SEAGULL:] 1:21 - "Venus' owners should have her DNA tested so they can add her genetics to a feline DNA data base! For science of course! I had a cousin who was a chimera though she was the result of my aunt's scientific experiments to give birth to live chicks as she hated egg sitting! Though after giving birth she declared she understood why birds lay eggs as birthing process was painful! My cousin also dressed up as Two-Face for Halloween this year!" 4:21 - "That's not a vampire cat, but a Sabertoothed-housecat! If you end up having a Sabertoothed-housecat, remember to keep them away from local TAR PITs!" 4:35 - "Well at least these Sabertoothed-housecats won't have any problem pulling off a Sabertoothed-Vampire cat cosplay!" 7:44 - "I've happened to know a few water loving cats in my day who couldn't resist getting wet via the tap facet!" 8:33 - "I can't blame that cat for running as I've met a few rats and mice that aren't so nice!" 8:55 - "Reminds me of those water loving black cats I talked about! They were both sisters who loved getting wet under the tap and drinking from it too!" 9:30 - "Me wonders if those lactose intolerant cats ever considered goats milk or coconut milk?! Also this cat drinking fresh from the cow definitely has some farm cat blood in em could they know cows produce milk!" 10:02 - "Hey, growing kittens need milk to help them grow and this mama dog has obvious adopted the little one!" 10:29 - "Obviously the mother was a Sonic fan so she adopted a hedgehog and a squirrel!" 10:35 - "Ah, the classic Lunes Toons duo of Pussyfoot & Marc Anthony! Seriously those two deserve more love cause of their unique dynamic among cartoon cats and dogs!" 10:42 - "We definitely need more videos of cats performing the Metamoran Fusion Dance from Dragon Ball Z!" 11:06 - "That's not snail cat, that's just a what a Snail from SpongeBob would look like in the real world!" 11:11 - "Ah, I see we have our first bird cat hybrid! While Peacock isn't a bad choice, I was kinda hoping for a SEAGULL-CAT hybrid!" 11:30 - "Ah, yes, the Cabbit, the fusion of a CAT & RABBIT! Heck maybe that is what Gombe the rabbit like cat from the Water 7 Saga of One Piece!" 13:33 - "WATCH OUT THAT CAT HAS A KNIFE! Sorry, but I once got in a fight with an alley cat who pulled a knife on me, and it's become a defense mechanism for me to make a warning call!" 14:21 - "Sounds like the Grim Reaper needed help reaping souls, so they enlisted the help of this kitty! Makes sense as I always pegged DEATH as a cat person!" 15:37 - "In America, cats are skinny, in Putin's Russian, cat is Russian Garfield! Also Lasagna does sound like a better name for this tubby tabby!" 22:48 - "More like Pikaneko!" 23:32 - "That Dragon cut looks B@D@$$!" 23:53 - "DAMN... NOW THAT is what I call a BIG CAT!"
