Heath House is a beautiful mansion home to Jon and Flavia. The couple inherited the house in 2002 after John's mother passed. However, the couple are unable to keep on top of caring for the house and dream of selling it. Their son Ben wants to inherit the property and turn it into a business. Ruth Watson returns to the family a year after her last visit to see what’s changed. Has Ben taken over the mansion? Did his business fail? Did the couple sell it?

For anyone curious as to what has happened since this was filmed 13+ years ago: Ben and his brother inherited the house. Unfortunately their father passed away not long after the show was filmed and their mother just a few months later. The younger brother, Justin, ran it as a wedding and photography venue with his wife. No idea what Ben was doing. It seems that Covid was rough for them and the estate was sold in 2021 for over £6 million. After the estate was sold, the Phillips family auctioned off some of the art, silverware, books and furniture of the house in 2022. They had a very active Facebook page until the house was sold.

Imagine losing your ancestral family home after 15 generations… Unbelievable sad how it still happens. ;/ But the proces of emotional decay started in the generation before. The obvious lack of trust and vision and the general negative attitude were not exactly fair nor helpful.

I didn't think that just the weddings commercial venue alone would uplift the revenues on the upkeep of the estate non plussed by John's unconscious wish to consider selling the house at modest prices.

The other people have been charming as well, but if you watch the other shows, you'll notice that Ruth Watson is extremely rude and she makes very disgusting comments towards the clients (for example about the paintings of their ancestors) that really riles them up. She's behaving incredibly well and humbled on this episode for some reason (even in the tone of her voice). Maybe she feels intimidated.

Thats not an easy question with a home like this its not as cut and dry as our normy houses. So how many bedrooms originally how many rooms are actively acting as a bedroom where do you draw the line of whats a bedroom? You put a bed in a ballroom or a library does it make it a bedroom? If I walk into a 2000 square foot room with a staircase in it and no closet idc how many beds are in it to me its not a bedroom. Then you got areas that are servant quarters or mother in law suits where they have a bedroom and kitchen maybe even a living room area in that section so thats not a bedroom nor can the bedrooms in those areas really be counted as a bedroom.

Stables for others horses. Yes business takes capital, but to have a family gem and heirloom of such historic significance and cut off your own children from the earning/ managing their legacy seems very cruel. Someone wrote they did sell it but at least for a higher amount then a lowball offer. And some strides were made in John learning to mature and be Fatherly to his adult son(s). Part of parenting is raising the adults and then letting go.

Buying a historic home of that calibre is prohibitive for most relatively well off folks-- not because of the purchase price, which can often be suspiciously reasonable, but because of the running costs. THAT'S where you get stung. And it explains why they so often leave private hands and get turned into hotels. How people are permitted to turn Grade-listed properties this gorgeous into modern hotels baffles me but a private owner with intentions to rejuvenate it as a private dwelling is watched like a hawk is one for the scholars.

I think the Fulford's could learn something from this family. True, the Fulford's need a lot of repairing, but I wonder if they could find some people who would want to help in the renovation for a chance to satay in their house. Mr. Fulford seems like a riot to spend some time with, but Mrs. Fulford would be difficult. As a faux painter and artist, I've worked for similar types, and it's tough when there's a person in the mix, making decisions, who can't reason well. Scaffolding would be one of the biggest issues for the Fulford mansion, and leaving people alone to do the work. I love that kind of work, it's not as enjoyable as painting a canvas, but it is satisfying. I'd love go to the Fulford's and spend a few months to renovate the entire place. They pay for the materials, and we work for food and experience. There would need to be a team of artists, a mason, wood workers, a few faux artists...I've done masonry, construction work, faux wood, faux marble ( both in the French and the Italian influence), sculpting, metal work, plumbing, heating (of course inspections would be necessary). The possibilities would be endless.

I think there is a reason why he has a concern. He knows his son more than we do. He’s 5th generation of being there & doesn’t know how many BR’s are there? You’re selling the property & don’t know how many BR’s there are? I’m glad the property was finally able to support itself, & not had to tear it down or anything like that. They have the right to sell & get return on the money they’ve invested over the yrs. They don’t owe their sons anything. They have gotten them to the age of majority. They’re done!

Unfortunately, I did some research. John Philips died in August 2011 and Flavia died a few months later in December of the same year. Heath House was sold and its contents were sold at auction by the Italian Art Society in April of 2022. I also ran into an online article that said Ben Philips mysteriously disappeared. Ben and his younger brother, Justin last owned the house. Justin and his wife, Sophie, were managing the business side of Heath House prior to its sale.

@@panamaJDid you read the date of what you saw. It was sold in 2023. The website no longer works. I think it was the result of Covid plus the father didn’t seem to want anything to do with the house. I was surprised his mother had lived there until she passed. I think just mistakes made over time as the upkeep costs would have been around 100 grand a year. Imagine needing the plumbing fixed?! But yes it sold and then most contents auctioned off. I’ve been looking up everything I could for hours this afternoon. Maybe the new owners have the money and re-open it again. It's a pity that these old manor homes are crumbling and being neglected because they are too expensive to heat and light. If the historical societies that are supposed to "protect' thiese homes would loosen the restrictions on certain things then it might save more houses. Discreet solar panels, or renovating to include geothermal heating, making sure the windows are triple glazed etc can all help off set the cost of heating the homes.

I’ve been visiting stately homes for a while, and the most successful ones have diverse income streams, like charities, events, luxury stays, and farm products. Horticulture is a great example, as many estates sell plants from their beautiful gardens. Marchmont House in the Scottish Borders, despite the owner’s recent passing, has stayed popular due to its varied offerings. Though these homes go through ups and downs, they always attract wealthy entrepreneurs and remain desirable.
