Centering past and contemporary abolition movements, this powerful event features activist, scholar, and author Angela Davis in conversation with former Oakland Youth Poet Laureate and author of the critically-acclaimed novel, Nightcrawling, Leila Mottley, and National Movement Building Director from the Black Organizing Project, Jessica Black, whose long-term and ultimately successful efforts abolished the OUSD police force. The conversation is moderated by Cat Brooks, co-founder of the Anti Police-Terror Project and Executive Director of "The Justice Teams Network.”
This discussion is a part of our exhibition Angela Davis - Seize the Time, examining the image, influence, and activism of the Oakland-based icon. Traveling to the West Coast after its debut at the Zimmerli Art Museum at Rutgers University, Seize the Time offers a deeper look into the life of Angela Davis through the lens of race, gender, economics, and policy.
This exhibition is on view now through June 11, 2023.
