My top nonfiction of the year was Know My Name by Chanel Miller. I am both a survivor of SA and work with children survivors of SA. This book honestly really changed me as a person by saying "yes, this system sucks, but individual moments of kindness still matter, respect and empathy still matter, and professionalism still matters". It really did a lot of healing of my heart, especially reading it while prepping to testify in a trial that had very low odds of conviction (and in fact, was not successful). It kept me motivated that I can still make a difference, and that even if the legal system fails, I can still make the journey easier for my fellow survivors.

So many great recommendations. Ever since my dad passed away last year, I feel like the universe is trying to comfort me by showing me how many others have also lost their dads. I will definitely pick up those memoirs. Thank you. 💞

I was very excited to read Lost & Found. I appreciated the sensitivity around her father's death and discovering love. However, I felt a disconnection with the author. Toward the end of the book, I grew tired of reading about her love life. This book was one of my most disappointing reads in 2022.

So many memoirs. I miss nonfiction that are “hard” memoir. No history, science, biography etc?
@abookolive2 жыл бұрын
Out of all the nonfiction books I read this year, these were the ones that stood out the most. If a good number of them are memoirs, then maybe that's just what I was feeling most this year? 🤷♀️ My reading may be public on this channel, but I'm always going to pick up books that I personally want to read.
