According to Robert Ames who was the CIA station chief in Beirut, Abou Hassan Salameh was a close friend of the agency, and was flown on more than one occasion to vacation in the USA with his wife Georgina Rizk. He was not an "asset" for the agency (on their payroll) but was a trusted source for them (source: The good spy). This is true only in part. They were friends because of women. Salameh had also close ties to the CIA and Robert Ames. But the Palestinians had a plan to take over Lebanon, like they did in Jordan. King Husein and Chaikh Bachir had no choice but to defend their countries.
