Question This Week: Interested in hearing from you... Do you knit? American/English style or Continental style? Is there a style that you like best or one that you would like to learn?

Your knitting is progressing very well. You should be proud of what you have accomplished. 🥰

Thank you so much Judy. At times I find that the knitting patterns confuse me, yet I still learn something (even when it doesn't turn out exactly like the pattern lol)

Hi Cathy. Loved the colour combo in the shawl. Nobody but you, and now all of us know it wasn’t what you expected 😂. Can’t wait to see your cardigan, looks great so far. See you next week!

Hi Tami. You are so right. We'll keep it between all of us, that it wasn't what I expected. lol About the cardigan... slow but sure. Hoping I'll be able to wear it before the spring. It's been fun so far, and a really nice textured stitch. See you on Monday! :-)

Hi Cathy. Your wrap and shawl are very pretty. Your cardigan is coming out so nice, I can't believe how quickly you are learning to knit. I knit continental style, my mother taught me to knit this way when I was a child. English style looks like it would take more time to knit.

Hi Debbie. Thank you so much! I am having fun knitting the cardigan, and enjoy the textured stitch. You are right -- I find it much faster to knit Continental. And I forgot to say one of the reasons that I first learned, was my purls in English style were too "loose". That doesn't happen with Continental. So happy that I know both, and when something is very knit & purl focused I definitely use Continental -- without question.

You continue to amaze me with your willingness to learn new things. What didn't you like about the edge of the navy? If it's the finished edge that you aren't fond of, just slip the first stitch on each row then start knitting the second row. It gives a nice finished edge.

Hi Diane. The shawl finishes with an obtuse angle, and I couldn't figure out how to add in one more section -- a section that would end the shawl with a straight edge. In crochet, I could have figured it out... However with knitting, I don't have enough experience. That said, thank you so much for sharing about how you achieve finished looking edges. :-)

Hello Cathy. Your knit project looks great. I just learned to knit recently and do the continental style because of the way that I hold the yarn for crochet. I hope my skills progress even half as swiftly as yours have! Well done 😃

Hi Cindy. You are so right about the similarity in holding yarn. You'll get there quickly, because of the similarities between crochet & knitting. (When I learned continental, it really helped my purl stitches to become better, because I tension better with my left hand... thanks to crocheting). Please send me email & let me know if I can help with any suggestions that helped me along the way. :-)

I don't knit so neither for me. Love the colors in the hat. Learning is part of the process and love how it turned out. The shawl is very pretty. Hope you are able to figure out the issue.

Thank you so much. This is very encouraging, as these definitely didn't work out as planned. lol (I will bring the shawl to the knit/crochet group this coming Friday. Some of the expert knitters there might be able to tell me where I went wrong? Hoping that it will be suitable for a prayer shawl, and I will donate it.)

big hugs 🤗I didn't even know there were different styles of knitting. I was just watching Ms C's Cottage and was able to "cast on". Once I master that, I'm hoping to quickly learn the stitches. I learned to knit when i was a kid but just haven't been able to cast on and become super frustrated. You do such beautiful work.

Hi MamaG. It surprised me too, when I found out there were different styles (everyone I saw IRL knit English/throwing style). You will love it once you learn how to cast on. Kind of like crochet -- after the first while, you build up the muscle memory, and then it gets easier. Have a great week.😊

that is a very cool technique in your hat. Maybe one of those giant pom poms would camaflouge most of the decrease section. :)

Hi Alison. Thank you so much for the comment about my cape. Many things that I make are in that style too. If I could only knit in one style, that would be the one I would choose.

Hi Cathy, your knitting looks great. I’ve been knitting for more than 50 years but I’ve never tried brioche. I knit English style, can’t seem to get the hang of continental.

Thank you so much for the compliment! I am finding that both knitting and crochet always have such new and exciting to learn and try. (At first I thought knitting was "only knits and purls". I was soooo wrong! lol)

Hi Cathy, I knit. I'm not an expert. Lol I am currently knitting a flat super bulky beanie. I'm using my stash. I don't know how old my Wool-Ease Thick & Quick fisherman's yarn is. I see it's still selling online. I saw bad reviews on Amazon. 😮 I still have my first knit shawl waiting for me to complete it. I loom knit and crochet. I've been knitting longer. I am a more confident crocheter. Eventually, I will probably need to invest in a better set of circular knitting needles. I have sick knitting on my list too. Oh, I am an American style knitter.

Hi Janet. I would like to try loom knitting! Very excited to hear how things work out for your hat. It sounds really warm and cozy. I would say that I am an American style knitter first. Definitely not as practiced at Continental yet... but grateful to have learned both.

I think your projects look fine Cathy especially as you are a newer knitter. All my makes have a “design feature” as I call my errors! I’m a thrower. Think I’m to set in my ways to go continental although I believe it’s quicker. I’m still trying to get to grips with crochet xx
@YarnWithHeart
@YarnWithHeart 6 күн бұрын
Thank you so much Loraine! I will start to think of these as design features... love that so much. Please do stay with the crochet. Very soon, you will come to love it almost as much as knitting. And perhaps keep a couple of your earliest things you crochet, so you see your progress over time. (I kept my first washcloth and my first "in the round project". Even though I had gone up a few hook sizes, they are very tight stitches and have many ummm design features. A reminder of early days.)

Thank you so much for asking. Last night it was fun to work more on it. I am about half way (row 79 out of 157 is complete). I will try to show progress on it this coming Friday. When I got sick this month, it really set me behind, and I am eager to get back to it. 😊

Hi Cathy, I was taught to knit by my grandmother at a very young age, but have largely forgotten. Can you recommend resources to learn knitting, especially continental style
@YarnWithHeart
@YarnWithHeart 6 күн бұрын
Hi Maria. I am not familiar with the most current offerings, however I can let you know how I learned. I searched for "continental knitting for crocheters" and found the videos by Marly Bird called Bicrafty Bootcamp Knitting Lessons for Crocheters. That was were I learned continental (by following Marly's first 12 lessons). Please let me know if you find this helpful. :-)
