What Bella said about the racism thing and her growing up in Africa is so true. As somebody who grew up in Africa the mood to the states when they’re older there’s so much stuff that you mess and you have to learn about through your community and friends and that he doesn’t realize it and I remember affect me this one time, but it was an Uber driver had to put it out for me because I didn’t think about it at all

Yeah also unfortunately when growing up in a less diverse community the community you're in turns out to be racist to other races as they don't interact with them as much and rely on stereotypes that's what I've seen with my family but since I was raised in an urban area in South Africa and went to a school with kids of different,races and ethnic backgrounds I had to learn to stop using my bias and prejudice and ended up making a lot of diverse friends with beautiful cultures,heritage and food and I became more open minded

I am from America, born and raised. I grew up in 2 environments in different east coast states: 1. 40% Black, 50% White, 10% other (mostly Asian), 0% Latinos 2. Huge melting pot with 15% or less White people. I grew up seeing Black people in positions of authority and power so the dynamics were very different. Yes there were little micro aggressions here & there, but they usually got checked and put in their place one way or another. I did not experience true overt racism until I moved to Arizona which is predominantly White and Mexican. Both are extremely racist towards Black people. There is so much racism on the West Coast and it is revolting! I hate living here tbh. I even quit being a bartender b/c I would get tipped less b/c I am Black. Other bartenders would not want to team with me because they got tipped less when working with me. Smh it was traumatizing. I am also "conventionally" attractive and would have to deal w/ racists trying to downgrade my beauty by publicly asking if my hair was real then trying to or successfully touching my hair. Smh they would get so mad when they found out my long hair and full afro is real and that I am not wearing makeup. Also Men who I would never be involved with are rude to me in order to gain brownie points with a less attractive White or Mexican woman. Smh I am so over the west coast, but circumstance is currwntly keeping me here. I am so ready to move on and move out tbh. 🙄😔

@@treena1067 Well the longer you live in US you may experience it (hopefully not but it is America so experiences like that will happen at least once or online). But growing up in different places and different cultures of course everything is going to be different. Racism manifest and looks differently in each place that’s why sometimes hard to pinpoint what it is. US has foundation of the genocide of Indigenous ppl and enslaved Black ppl with policies or direct action in effect today. Colorism is side effect of Colonization and Racism. Internalized racism as well after centuries of it in many countries unfortunately. I hope you don’t experience racism while out in the US but sometimes the racism is a microaggresion. Hard to call out, hard to place cause it’s tethering “is it just me being extra or was this legit?”. I experience racism here and there. Maybe every few years. Microaggresions about my hair or spectrum of my skin color more often. Online though I know many experience it esp where they live in US esp with history of slavery or Jim Crow or Segregation (how long it took to be outlawed to that city).

What was surprising was his behavior afterwards. I believe people think because westerners are more “open-minded” anything goes in our dating culture. There are still things we consider inappropriate & making out or sleeping with a girl & then ghosting her is one of them. It happens, probably often, but it’s seen as a “jerk move”. My father's from a predominantly black country, and he always spoke to me about racism so I find it so interesting when I hear other black people say this. I'm always curious about how they explain colorism and how economic class and race intersect, because white people are disproportionately in higher socioeconomic classes in many black countries. Bella even mentions South Africa, a black country that had segregation and a very racist social structure with the white minority treating the black majority like second-class citizens. And Rwanda has a whole history of ethnic genocide so at the very least, she may not have felt like she experienced racism, but at the very least she should've known what discrimination is. @@vanessapaul5908 Colorism is present but classism eclipses it. Jamaica is very classist. The gap between the rich and the poor is massive with a large percentage of the population being poor. Jamaica is also over 90% black, as a result, most of the poor people are black however there are poor non-black natives as well. And while most of the non-black people belong to the middle/upper class, the majority of the middle/upper class are black. For example, most of our politicians and people in power are black. However, business-wise, the Asian Jamaicans are huge players though. In Jamaica, discrimination is mostly based on your address, how well you speak English, and your etiquette. I am dark-skinned, and I mostly remember being scowled at by my family and teachers about speaking "properly", dressing decently, having proper manners, and things like that. My schooling was very elitist, I remember my kindergarten and primary school hosting balls and dinners where you got dressed up and were expected to carry yourself a certain way, eat with a knife and fork, etc. My all-girls high school had a whole subject called "Personal Development" where you learn how to carry yourself like a young lady and you receive tests and a grade at the end of the semester just like any other class. Middle/upper-class Jamaicans tend to look down upon the ghetto and 'ghetto' speech. Contrary to popular belief, be aware that not all poor Jamaicans live in the ghetto and not everyone who lives in the ghetto lives in poverty. Furthermore, ghettos only exist in the cities and there are poor Jamaicans who live in the countryside, however, most people who live in the countryside are middle/lower-class with some in the upper class. Class in Jamaica is ranked as Upper class then middle-class then lower-class then the ghetto, but keep in mind that there are a few people from the ghetto who are actually middle class. Anyways, I could not speak patios at school or around my family. In fact, most middle/upper-class Jamaicans looked down on patios in general. It was not until recent years with social media and the world loving patios that many middle/upper-class Jamaicans started to embrace patios fully but they still don't speak it as deeply as the poorer Jamaicans do. In fact, there are some Jamaicans who speak patios so deeply that I cannot understand them at all. It's like a whole different language especially when they are from the countryside. For example, normally you can tell what social class a Jamaican is from based on how thick their accent is. Due to how I was raised, I can literally turn my accent on and off as I please, and people will not know that I am Jamaican unless I tell them. Don't get me wrong, racism does exist in Jamaica but it is on a much smaller scale than in America, and mostly it is towards poor and/or "ugly" people. Jamaicans are colorists in many ways. For example, we did have an issue with skin bleaching not too long ago but that was short-lived and died out really quick as it was mostly seen as a trend as weird as it sounds. But, make no mistake, the colorism is there. However, it is sidelined due to the fact that Jamaicans revere beauty over complexion. A Jamaican will always choose a beautiful dark-skin person over an ugly/average light-skin one. However, if you are dark-skinned, ugly, and poor your life will be very difficult because the hierarchy in Jamaica goes wealth then beauty then skin complexion then race. That being said, I never really noticed this stuff when I was growing up because my family was pretty comfortable and, in all honestly, I also had the pretty privilege. I was raised in a bubble and most of my friends were just like me. I was exposed somewhat in high school where I was able to met people of different classes but most of the kids at my school were either middle/upper class. Also, my school was kind of known as being "posh", as they would say in Jamaica. Like, we literally wore strict uniforms and had rules that even dictated to us what kind of socks were acceptable and how thick to fold them. (Plain white, cotton socks folded 1 inch thick above the ankle. Just in case you were wondering). So, anyways, it was not until I moved to New York that guys, particularly the black guys, used to make fun of my dark skin. I had visited many times on holiday but I never experienced that before then and I never had Jamaica guys I liked refuse to date me because of my skin tone. I was used to being 'that girl' back home so when I got to New York and black guys weren't feeling me I didn't understand it at first, so I simply dated non-black guys but even then, I would face micro-racism, which I also didn't understand either. I would also experience micro-racism from my non-black people including my 'friends'. I didn't understand was systemic racism was nor did I understand negative black stereotypes and how they affect black people, especially black women. It took years for me to understand that stuff and to learn how to deal with situations like that. I also did not understand African American culture and I had to learn it because I was often referred to as an oreo. This was really long, but I just wanted to give you a proper understanding since you said that you find it interesting. P.S. I'm no longer naive, I have since outgrown my sheltered upbringing and I now have a better understanding of the world, especially in pertaining to racism. All in all, there is a certain naivety that comes with being raised in an all/majority-black country. I suppose the dynamics vary from country to country but still there are many similarities in how we see the world, and I can understand how black people from white-dominated countries like America find it difficult to comprehend our point of view.

Honestly i am hesitate about watching another season. Dkdk really surprised me with their opinions. they made a show for international dating when they themselves commented they like the asian girls. Megan made it seem like it was everything else but what it was. Not to mention, some clearly was on the show for their careers. KJ for sure

LOL Okay that was adorable. Bella was a bright light on this show. I have no idea why she ended up single in the end. It's so weird how people in Asia/South Korea or Africa don't experience racism until they travel outside of their country because I've had to deal with racism my entire life. lol With that being said, I don't think there was racism on this show. I think people have a tendency to gravitate toward their own race, and there's nothing wrong with that. Also, Erika did not experience racism on this show. At least two guys liked her. She was just too self-absorbed to realize it. No shade.

@ILooKs332 жыл бұрын
@@lboogy85 Was it though? I don't think it was. As far as we could see through the camera lens they didn't treat her negatively nor did they do or say anything racist. They're just not open-minded. They're so used to their culture's beauty standards it may or may not be hard for them to rub off--with the idea of whiter skin tone being better. Doesn't necessarily mean they're racist.

To be a black person who never experienced racism before was such a "WOW" moment for me. I'm so happy that she's never had to deal with that. I- oddly- have never thought about the lack of racism in the homogenous places of Africa. In my mind, Black people everywhere are just catching all sorts of prejudice. I thought, "Wow, what a unicorn," lol. But I'm so grateful to hear that that's a normal for people where she's grown up. A blessing! 🥰♥️ Such a beautiful & humble lady! 💕

I am glad you woke up because it seem like you were the most popular girl in the end and the most honest girl, but I do feel that you may have experienced racism because all the people of one race in Korea and they are not used to us and all the people in Rwanda and South Africa are black, but we as a People don’t realize that Europeans have impressed a stereotype about us on the Asians. But you’re a beauty was overwhelming and not even Erika could stand in your shadow and her lighter lighter complexion is what made her a safer choice. But honestly a Korean man if he gets to know you will fall in love because not only are you pretty on the outside. You are pretty on the inside.❤

In all honesty i dont want sus to ho back on the show. I feel they would just use her for ratings. I want her to be happy and find her true love organically. Not to come off as a Netflix and chill type of girl, but be taking seriously and have a stable loving relationship with whomever she chooses to be in her life.
