Unlike other brands of vintage reel tape, I have never had sticky shed syndrome with any of my Maxell reels. The tape binder is fantastic, even after 40 years. Rock solid.

I’m very new to open reel tape, and I have a Sony TC-730. How can I tell what formulations my deck can handle?

The older decks, without a tape selector, were set up for Sony PR150, a standard tape. You can use Low Noise or Low Noise / High Output tapes for this deck. The newer formulations might sound louder, with a brighter high end.
