Usually at Nisai it's pretty easy to tell if you have them in your pond. They chase the female. What's important is learning how to pick Tosai gender. Can you do a video on that?

For tosai that will be difficiult. It becomes a lot easier when the Koi reaches the age of 2 (Nisai).

Very good and informative content. I tried indentifying my koi but it went a lil bit confusing. Maybe i can get some tips or help. I have a one fish, very slim looking, rough pectoral fins and gillplates not so round in body. The vents are concave but ( here it comes) it has a transverse slit instead of a round hole. Can it be a male or female ?😅

Normally when the gillplates and pectoral fins are both rough, it most likely is a male. You can try to push a little bit around the vent, like I show in the video, that will make sure if it is 100% male. But I think the gill and pectoral fins already are indicating towards male.

@@Aboutkoi thanx. yeas i pretty think so to that its a male. Although i tried to squeez the vent but no milt came out . He must be infertile or not ready 🤷 (ps i have other males where the milt came out )

Really good video. Oddly I've always found that males, especially when older, have large pectorals and tails for their size compared with females - there are always exceptions though !

Another way is to watch them. The male will approach the females side and touch with the nose, a female will not make that kind of move. Also males follow females.

Hi There, when male are 2 years, it can be quite easy to 'squeeze' them. When 1 years old, it is a lot harder. The bumps will appear at around the same age. Hi there, it can be stressy indeed for Koi. But it is ok when you stay calm and the Koi stays calm as well. Water quality and a good diet are most important factors here
