I used to watch your videos a lifetime ago and just stumbled on this. Good to see you took some time off and came back. You've always had a good vibe. A lot of people have the campground idea, but I think local zoning always presents problems. Specifically the septic. I want the same things as you, including the community, and I've seen a couple examples of people trying it but they don't appear too successful. Perhaps greed is the problem because I don't see nomads paying $50k to buy into someone else's dream that may not align with their own. I think it would require some founders with the capital to create the basic infrastructure without expecting an immediate return on their investments.

Yeah I’ve mostly abandoned the idea at this point. It’s too reliant on things outside of my control.

CB Is great an all, but you should look into Amateur radio and get your technician and general license. With the General class, you’ll have access to the 10 meter band which is the same frequency.
@IntoTheMystery139 ай бұрын
I had a nice yaesu but never figured out how to use it, and sold it. The math and science part doesn’t interest me enough to put in the effort. I just want to avoid an accident with a logger. Hams are important, it’s just not for me.
@TBGaels329 ай бұрын
@@IntoTheMystery13 I get it. Look at it this way, in the unlikely event that you need help and you’re out of cell coverage, you can always have some form of communication. CB will only get you so far. There’s really not a whole lot of science & math involved as you can pretty much get most of the equipment online through a few reputable retailers. I’m not much into ham radio, though I just have a technician class license. But I may upgrade to the general class just to have a few extra frequencies and some HF. I hope to start traveling soon, and if I get out of cell coverage I have a way to communicate and potentially get help

I think the co-op campsite idea is super cool. The problem with that is you're then reliant on other people to help maintain and pay for the land. Maybe I'm paranoid, but I'd rather have a marketable skill I can leverage from anywhere. I would recommend things like web design, video editing and nearly anything IT related. These can all be done remotely with nothing but an internet connection.
@IntoTheMystery139 ай бұрын
Finding the right people would definitely a big challenge. IT and web design are not for me. I’m trying to live a life that doesn’t require much money. I used to make 2k a month with this channel which was plenty.

Jed after my kids left the nest we started to downsize to a more manageable lifestyle, paid off all our bills. Then I quit working from being self employed for 38 years for a few years to adjust to even a simpler lifestyle. Went back to work for a employer for a few more years and finally decided to retire full-time and loving it. If I didn’t get married and have kids I’d probably be a drifter traveler, minding my own business and exploring. I have found owning anything in life is responsibility and in a sense a prison keeping you on a tight leech keeping you from enjoying life. Yeah I own a house with land and a motorhome but like I said it’s a expensive responsibility holding me back from really enjoying the adventure. Jed you’re in a perfect position in life keep it simple don’t complicate it. Just my thoughts.

Maybe you'll be the one that makes it, I wish you luck. Its not as if it hasn't been tried a million times. Ken Kesey and his Merry Pranksters comes to mind. 101 has always been a place of dreams but now those dreams can get pretty spendy. I live just south of Cannon Beach and the way I did it was as a second home. Back then they were giving houses away. Now over the years and 5 remodels its pretty nice but the taxes aren't. 101 has changed and it hasn't. From Dharma bums (Kerouac) to I wouldn't sell you my garden shed for less than a mill. Its going up even more with Intel moving into Beaverton. More people fewer places at the table. As for getting people together with a common goal good luck. Its like herding cats. I prefer to depend on myself. School, find good jobs I enjoy and flip a few houses. Pretty standard story. While singing Kumbaya by a fire in a commune might sound nice I have never seen it work out. The thing about the coast is there is no industry. Unless your skilled in a way that is needed or a gig worker you better have big savings if you want to live here. People come to 101 sit on a rock look at the ocean and dream, thats what this place is about. Shops you see around here are tax write offs and something for the wife to do during the day. My favorite time of the year is winter. Except for a few storm watchers everyone is gone and it reverts back to Mayberry with a few bars. Hey good luck with the co-op camp ground.
@IntoTheMystery139 ай бұрын
A co-op is different from a commune, and it’s just an idea not a plan. There are plenty of examples of co-ops working out long term. Yes extremely difficult to make it on the coast. With the threat of the cascadia quake I’m amazed at how highly real estate prices are.

WTF??? I just want to know why the authorities (who use our tax dollars) aren't towing these old cars away. Surely they've noticed their presence if they're patrolling the logging roads... 8:13 mark: Yeah, that is the ideal. The problem I see is being able to keep those parcels secure when you're gone. Even with a co-op, who wants to be the one to stick around for the several months of bad weather to watch over the land while everyone else is traveling to warmer/cooler climates? Not me. Lol. A campground sounds nice, but you need people that you can trust to stay there and manage the place when you're gone. 13:43 mark: It sounds like you would benefit by using a Neti pot with pure clean white salt (not table salt) when you're unable to be on the coast. Also, MSM has been proven useful for allergies (among many other ailments). It needs to be taken on a regular basis to have the most usefulness. The shaky footage is fine. Lol. Thanks for showing us the beautiful coastal area. Those tidepools are awesome!
