Mark Holloway just about everyone prefers to use hardware but when most people are starting they just don't have the money to buy the hardware. Some of the synths I've seen people using retail at up to 20k. It's not uncommon for a decent poly synth to cost upwards of 4k. You won't find a great monophonic analog for less than about a grand.

Not long, something like a few hours filming. Editing takes typically for me 1 h per minute. But the arrangement took probably something like 30-40 h to put together, mix and record.

I didn't quite understand your question, but the keyboards were controlled by MIDI, yes. First, I recorded the MIDI data to sequencer, edited it, and then I played the song through once, and downmixed it in realtime through an analog mixer to a stereo track, which was later digitally mastered.

Actually, the Source is easier to program, because it has less routing options than the minimoog and only two oscillators (Minimoog has three). The membrane button interface is almost as easy as the minimoog. To adjust a parameter just press the button and turn the wheel. Ok, there are a few parameters (like S/H) that are more difficult to access, but I think all patch parameters have a dedicated button (push and turn). But for sure, you can make the same bass sounds with a minimoog as well.
