Above LA is a love letter to Los Angeles and showcases my favorite way to view the city - from above. Whether on a rooftop, a hill, or a mountain, getting above the grind of the city allows you to appreciate it in a new way. Once you get even slightly above, the views and sounds begin to change dramatically.
Getting above it all has been instrumental in helping me get to know and appreciate Los Angeles. This piece was produced off and on over the course of two years, and the clips selected for this film are only a small percentage of what I captured during my quest to take in the city from different locations and in new ways. Some of the locations featured are popular and easy to access, others require some searching and hiking, and some are heavily restricted. But I encourage everyone - lifelong Angelenos, transplants, visitors - to hit the trails, drive the mountain roads, find a reason to get on top of a high-rise. From the basin to the valley, this city offers so many opportunities to rise above and look down. Never stop exploring.

While driving around the city, it doesn't feel like a fantasy, but this video makes LA feel like a fantasy. I always liked looking from the outside in rather than being apart of it.

I remember when I first got a medical marijuana card in 2007 my friend and I drove to the weed clinics in LA, picked up several strains and then spent the rest of the day slowly driving through the neighborhoods of LA through the hills and valleys eastward along the san gabriel mountains back to the IE. One of the coolest days of my life. We were so stoned by I'll never forget it.

I usually like European cities more than North American ones but LA is really an exceptional city. I like New York too but it's too loud and crowded and extroverted for my introvert ass. LA just seems like a place where you could chill and find cool introvert friends like myself. I've never been to it but I would love to go someday

Nina Torees You got it. I moved from Europe to LA many moons ago and still love it in all its glory. I‘m more of an introvert, too, and the Southbay beach cities are perfect for it. Make sure you visit Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, Palos Verdes, and Laguna Beach when you‘re here. Also the Observatory at Griffith Park, at sunset to watch all the city lights come on. NYC is okay for a few days but would be hell to live in.

Cade Del Rey It might seem like paradise but it comes at a price. I know so many people who ditched LA because it’s too hectic and expensive. In fact, I used to live there too. So many people are fleeing California and moving to other states. People in eastern California want out and they even want to declare Independence as a new state.

The relentless focus on buildings, especially the downtown area, and on traffic is a good indication that the videographer is not a native Angeleno. When out-of-towners ask to “see downtown,” locals scratch their heads in amazement. If there’s one thing L A isn’t, it’s a downtown-centric city like other major metropolises are. The video doesn’t get to some of what’s best about the area until nearly the 3 minute mark, and avoids water like the plague. Also, time-lapse makes the pace of the city seem frenetic, whereas it’s still a comparatively laid-back place to be. Other than that, it’s an enjoyable video that barely begins to crack the surface of all there is to see and do in L A and its environs.

Los Angeles is truly most unique and most beautiful city on earth. Besides these great KZbin timelapse vids, check out episodes of "The Hills" which features tons of classic image shots of this great city. "L.A. Complex" also has similar image shots inserted in between segments. Any know of any other series that does that?
