When people ask me, what is trance music? When they ask me to recommend good trance music. I say the genre has evolved a lot over the years, but if you want to hear what is trance in its purest form, listen to Above and Beyond Tri-State. Trance was evolving from other genres until this album released. Tri-State gave Trance an identity and inspired so much great music in and out of the genre to follow.

not sure what you mean by 'this album gave trance an identity'....trance had a well defined identity from its inception and its foundational 4 on the floor architecture instantly recognizable as its own. Above and beyond was amazing I agree, I was partying hard when anjunabeats was trending and Id say those years were already on the back end of trance's 'golden years', plenty of pure trance examples are found in early classic 90s trance

You are right, i love Paul van dyk (saw him twice) but the closet album that he did similar to tri-state in my opinion was "Reflections"...and was aready the 4th album in his discography, Above and beyond were able to pull this masterpice of from their very first album....part of the soundtrack of my life.

I'm happy to be old enough to have lived through golden age of trance, when masterpieces like this were produced and artist like A&B toured Europe all year long. Sadly the genre srtarted dying soon after this album was released and now is long dead. But the memories are still vivid and this album brings back a lot of them. It's like my whole youth was captured in it. Last year I had Good For Me played on my wedding, which was my dream for over 10 years. :)
