Hello everyone. Before I talk about the MAIN REASON BEHIND DEPRESSION, I want to clear that this isn't any material that I have gathered from net, I am a psychology student and hence I know minute details about depression, and fortunately I want to tell people why people fall into depression. Depression is a term to define the depressed feelings which are not there for any reason. The main reason why people feel and suffer depression is DENIAL and REPRESSION. DENIAL of the feelings. People suffer from depression when there is something that they have gone through, any illness, stress, sickness, situation or ANYTHING IN THE WORLD. FOR EXAMPLE - I am suffering from a heartbreak and I am not able to accept that the person left me, so I will not accept it, rather I will repress it and behave as if it doesn't effect me. Now some people will say that it's moving on or acceptance. There's a very fine line of difference between acceptance and denial. When you accept something, it's in your conscious mind, and when you deny something it's in your unconscious. Now, further information, there are three levels of person's mind - the conscious level, unconscious level, pre conscious level. The conscious level means that when you are aware of what you are doing, like I am typing so I am aware of what I am doing. Similarly, unconscious is the level where we have all our emotions and all are memories. The dreams are the royal roads to unconscious. When we repress something, it's because we don't want that bad thing or feeling to enter our consciousness, that means that we don't want that feeling to be felt., we don't want to feel the bad feeling and we repress it, ie., deny it. And hence it remains in your unconscious mind. There are NUMEROUS CAUSES OF DEPRESSION. THEY CAN'T BE FITTED HERE. Whatever I am saying has supported facts. Nevertheless, I want people to be aware of actual symptoms - They are - - loss of interest in ALL Activities , INCLUDING The ones which the person loved the most. - insomnia or hypersomnia. (sleep disturbances) - fatigue, restlessness, muscle tension - recurrent thoughts of suicide - thoughts like hopelessness, worthlessness, and one should not live any longer - guilt provoking thoughts -loss of appetite - not knowing what's wrong - extreme feelings of sad, hopeless, disturbing and distressing feelings. -losing interest in everything - depressed most of the day, for 2 WEEKS - indecisiveness - feelings of anxiety Most important feature of depression is that person doesn't know that why he or she is sad, depressed. This is the explanation through denial. Something happened, we don't want to face it, we repress it, we don't give much thought to it and thus we deny that it's affecting us, now that feeling is enclosed within unconscious mind and couldn't reach the conscious mind, and hence couldn't be expressed. Any feeling which is repressed needs to be given out. The feeling which is felt during the depressed period, is THE SAME FEELING that the person had repressed and denied to accept. Now to clear ND sum it all...here is an example. I am a fully functioning person. Lots of money and everything is fine. ( depression has nothing to do with being rich or poor, it can happen to ANYONE AND EVERYONE ON THIS EARTH) suddenly, I wake up one morning feeling the above symptoms for more than 2 weeks and I don't know the reason. I go to a psychologist. She tells me and cures me. Now here's what made me depressed. Weeks prior to my experience of the symptoms, I faced a heartbreak, the person left me and I had to accept that he isn't with me. I didn't accept it and rather behaved as if nothing happened. I denied that I miss him or whatever is the feeling related to him. I repressed the feeling that I miss him or whatever and any feeling associated to it. I deny and repress it. Hence it showed like a free floating anxiety and caused me to sink into depression. Concluded - Depression has to recognised as soon as possible. People commit suicides, its that serious. As you have seen, there weren't any TRUE SYMPTOMS AND CAUSES FOR Depression that were discussed during the interview. Or any interview on net has least information. THE WHOLE CYCLE OF DENIAL nd REPRESSION was not even told by anyone. I don't blame anyone for that because there are hardly any people having genuine information about depression and its real causes. That's mainly because psychology isn't a main subject taught in schools and people consider mental health secondary. Believe me, if psychology will be introduced in every school and as a compulsory subject, mental health will rapidly improve. Now, to have more knowledge, please contact any therapist and if not, if you are feeling that you need a depression diagnosis, get it done. There are tests to do it. Go to a therapist. Ask people the reason. If they don't feel good and lack their feelings, ask them to seek help. Don't nudge them to cheer up. And lastly, DO NOT EVER DENY ANY FEELING. ALWAYS ACCEPT WHAT HAS HAPPENED. ( I am not a psychologist. But a psychology student and have studied psychology. These are true facts.. seek PROPER HELP AND DIAGNOSIS FROM A PSYCHOLOGIST)

Depression occurs when we have strong feelings for something or something we like to do or like most suddenly that goes aways ot starts to fade away.. we slowly move into depression.. so those people who never experienced depression i would like to tell them to enjoy everything in life not just one particular thing or person or habit. Everything should be small in quantity. Don't overdo things you like. If you are passionate about something than please keep your focus on some backup passionate as well. Have some other 3-4 passion as well.

She's right about most of the things she talked about, her approach is very honest and positive. The way she described her feelings is one of the few people experience while in depression. However, I just wanna clarify that she says its depression but its not since she experienced it for 2-3 weeks ONLY. Depression is when this same condition persists for 6 months or longer. Its a chronic condition not acute. Another sign its not depression is, she said she was fulfilling her career commitments, a person with depression experiences hopelessness and fatigue, and they dont think anything would ever help them in the future. If she was depressed she wouldn't be resuming her acting so skillfully. From my understanding, she went through extreme stress but not depression.

I m also going through this past 6 years maybe more. I worked hard on it. Somehow, I have succeed to overcome it. In my opinion betrayal is the main cause in this. Because I observed if you fail professionally it doesn't effect but when someone cheat on you. It's tough to survive after that. I can't imagine how I have been through.

I suffer from depression, and it took me to recover 12 years, I fight my own battles without medication. I took medication for little bit but I realize it made me to sleep and after I wake up my pain is there only thing is you just become calm for a while. I stop taking medicine and help my self to heal. It takes a lot of strength to face your own pain and heal

i can totally relate to this...deepika love you that you spoke about this.....i am suffering from depression for 3 years now..! and finally i got to know that this was the reason...those tablets made me realize that i can get out of this...! i am still not out but i can definitely achieve this(i really hope)...this is worst phase....i just need some moral support! there is nothing for world to see a reason for it...but only people who are going through it or suffering can totally understand!! ...for outer world there is no reason because i am successful and its just useless thing to have such feeling...but man i knoww i am feeling this...cannot explain its validity..! people who say they are sensitive should think atleast once that are you really behaving sensitive to the emotions of others..it is equally important.... Thanks Deepika ...it might turn life saving for me..It gave me courage to feel what i am feeling atleast!
