"Who after Nehru?" was the answer after death of then Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru. After discussion, Lal Bahadur Shastri was appointed as Prime Minister of India. It was difficult to find a leader who can be represented by everyone. LB Shastri took very important decisions during 1965 India-Pakistan war. Teen Murti Bhawan was residence of former Prime Minister Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru. After a letter, written by Indira Gandhi, then PM LB Shastri decided to move out of the residence of former PM Nehru.

I believe multiple parties benefited from Shastriji's demise. Congress still had a few honest leaders like Yeshwantrao Chavan, Chidambaram Subramanyam & Neelam Sanjeev Reddy. Kamraj himself was brilliant, but in his own words "No english, no hindi. How ?". USSR saw this as an opportunity and eagerly sought Indira Gandhi as the premier who could be manipulated due to her leftist leanings. So there's high probability KGB might be involved. United States sought Morarji Desai due to his right-wing anti-communist leanings and someone who could let the NATO use the subcontinent as a base and someone who would take decisions as per Washington. Besides, pak was a top notch US ally whom Shastriji and the Indian military forces has decisively beaten. So the CIA as revenge could've wanted to topple Indian leadership on overseas soil, something it did in Congo, Guatemala and Iran. Desai's performance as Finance Minister too was lackluster and despite being in favor of free-market enterprises not even G.D. Birla & J.R.D. Tata were fond of him. We'll never know who or what actually killed Shastriji.

Great apisode, though i born in 66 when Shastri ji was no more but I heard a lot of positive things from my Grand Fathar about him.( Shri Nand Kishore Nigam) and also lots of facts about Nehru ji and other political leaders. one of his book "Balidan" about the life of Shri Chandra Shekhar Aazad was banned by Nehru government, there were lot of interesting facts about all these glorious PMs.

Shastriji did not die of heart attack. He was physically fit. 4 persons were selected to give the body the final ritual bath before cremation. one of them was know to me. His wife and kid disappeared before he went in the room for the last bath. Later he told me what happened. Before these 4 persons went in the were given a msg. They were told that their families have been kidnapped. They were told to give the bath and keep their mouth shut. They were not to speak of what they saw inside. This man told me that Shastriji's body had turned blue. there were patches of bruise marks all over the body. But he begged me to keep quite about all this because his and his family's life was in danger. Now he is dead. I too will pass on soon So I finally have taken courage to write this. Shastriji was killed by poison and also tortured. It was a conspiracy of the russian govt and Indian politician who did not like him. God help India. With friends like these we dont need enemies.
