Hey, great video and explanation! I was here scratching my head since I ordered a Kluson tuner to upgrade my Epiphone LP 50’s and was clueless how to go about dealing with the old bridge. You saved me a whole lot of trouble! Thanks.

I did the same, but I used the whole Faber kit; which included the locking light weight tailpiece ( and new steel tailpiece studs)... I think the Faber tailpieces sound better than the Gotoh (imo). Sounds better and stays in tune great. This guitar has almost too much tone!
@downshift003 жыл бұрын
Ya i might end up changing the studs. The tailpiece bushings though are too small it seems so that the aftermarket ones end up beingtoosmall I guess? epiphone bushings are not the same size as all of these other manufacturers?
@robertthompson63023 жыл бұрын
Just tell a Larry at Faber you need the import locking tailpiece and studs... works like a charm ( or just studs and bushings since you already have a tailpiece) really stable! Like I mentioned, the combo of the 50s wiring and the Faber locking hardware makes these guitars a real tone beast. Very clear and commanding tone I’m not used to... almost too bright compared to my other Gibson’s. Wish it didn’t have the fake flame top, but otherwise a pro instrument 100%.
@billy1858 Жыл бұрын
@@robertthompson6302 its not a fake top ,veneer is real would ! just a thin slice of it mounted to a piece of maple.
@robertthompson6302 Жыл бұрын
@@billy1858 it’s a very thin slice of real maple yes, but that is not the same as having a real piece of flame maple top! To me, that is cheating a bit, but it would cost another five hundred dollars if it had one… so that’s part of getting it for under a thousand dollars. Believe me, I appreciate it. These are the best bang for the buck you can get if you are looking for that type of guitar.

I've bought a Faber abr with brass saddles plus posts and a Faber aluminium tailpiece with steel studs and spacers to go on a Lazarus. I've also got a set of full hight pickup rings plus a set of double cream Dimarzio PAF 59s to go in the guitar. I've had to wait because I'm in England and the pickups and rings I had to order from the states the Faber hardware I got locally with the abr adaptor posts from Germany. Oh and I also bought some Montys relicing wax to darken the fingerboard with. Now all I have to do is get the job done.

I own the Epiphone '59, what's the point of the bridge swap? Have you noticed any difference in tone or playability? I can't imagine the difference is very significant.
@igorshunch2 жыл бұрын
Great, informative vid! Thanks. So could you explain in a little more detail the advantages of the new bridge and tailpiece? I’ve heard people referring to the ABR style but never really got a the differences… and the tailpiece basically because it’s lighter? Thanks! Interested in learning more!
@downshift002 жыл бұрын
So the epiphone bridge is not the greatest material. The abr bridge is just better metal quality and the tailpiece is very lightweight and aluminum. I just prefer the ABR type bridge as I have it on my other Gibson LPs. It supposed to be just a tad brighter in tone. That is subjective though. I also like modifying my guitars so it was a win win LOL.

@@downshift00 hey, thanks for taking the time to reply! I appreciate the info. I have been accumulating a small collection over the past decade myself, And have been learning about doing my own setups, adjustments, and (minor) modifications. Initially to save $$, and later out of interest & enjoyment. I also read over some of the past comments just now-also informative. I have a couple of Gibsons & Fenders, But usually play my Epiphones and Squires. And have found the Q.C.To have GREATLY improved in recent years on the import versions. And I’m not near as worried about performing surgery on them! Thanks again. Appreciate your vids.

@downshift003 жыл бұрын
The stock bridge just screws into in a bushing in the guitar body. This creates a direct connection into the wood ala the original ABR bridge posts that would screw directly into the wood. Creates better sustain and a little more high end.

I thought it made it a little brighter, but who knows 😂. It's a better quality bridge either way. I'm a fan of the ABR1s I have on my other Gibson LPs. I think it's worth it.

Good question. I was just trying to find that out recently as I am thinking of selling this Epi 59 and might want to pull it out. I've found a couple of forum posts about it. They mentioned screwing on a couple of nuts and then slowly using a pliers to pull it up.
@rodrossi97493 жыл бұрын
Definitely not worth the price, you can do an easier conversion using conversion pieces from Philadelphia Luther Supply. I don't think I've ever spent more than 45 bucks to do the same job. Plus you don't need to pull the studs. The Epiphone tailpiece is superior because it locks on, as you clearly illustrated the Faber flies right off. Then again, it's your money to do with as you please.
@downshift003 жыл бұрын
Sure it locks on, but that's not a big deal to me. I rarely have all the strings off at one time. What conversion pieces are those? I wanted to remove the screw in posts to be like my ABR1 Gibson LP, that's why I did it.
@rodrossi97493 жыл бұрын
@@downshift00 ...... you will be able to find them on Ebay or you can get them directly from Philadelphia Luther Supply. Then all you do is select the correct bridge for them...... no studs to remove, simple on and off. If you are not sure of the correct parts just email them. They were very helpful the 1st time I did the conversion. Very quick, very simple. I've done 6 guitars so far, mostly because I prefer the feel of an ABR 1 over anything else. Let me know how you make out....RR

@MegaCk93 ..... that's odd, they are still advertising both of those as having locking tailpieces.
