Hearing Abra sings this song in the 1990s opened a new musical world for me, one that still feels too fragile and beautiful to exist. Her winsome, little girl voice is perfect here.

oh abra. you are the best. I first heard you sing this a decade ago, then fortunately I was able to experience a little Hawaiian culture firsthand a few years ago, and fell in love with the islands and the people, and remembered your singing. Jerry Santos gave us a tremendous gift when he wrote this song, and you do him great honor in how you sing it. Mahalo nui loa.

I saw her do this song at the Jimmy Lafave tribute show. It was my favorite moment of the whole show. Wish I could someone had a video of it.

Abra, .. I am breathless .. ! You are like Lapis Lazuli : precious stone, deep blue with traces of gold included !!! A childhood compacted into one song, one song that makes you come up to the reality to take air. After you, I sung and recorded it, I had to. Pure emotion you are ! !!!

Wonderful how well she translates the melancholy and sadness of the lyrics into her song. Simply beautiful. It seems to be a song written by Jerry Santos and Robert Beaumont as "Ku`u Home o Kahalu`u" (with love of my home of Kahalu`u).

If you're from the Windward side of Oahu, this becomes automatically your anthem in terms of residency

I was so not expecting to hear Ku'u Home O Kahalu'u with a Southern (Appalachian?) accent. Pretty version but.
