We stopped for a couple nights in Springfield, Illinois so that we could visit the home of Abraham Lincoln and finish out our tour of the places Mr. Lincoln lived. This is a wonderful historical site that preserves not only Mr. Lincoln's home but the neighborhood he once lived, showing what middle class America was like in the 1860's.

My great great great grandmother was a maid in the Lincoln home. My grand father had his ophthalmology practice down the street. His partner is still alive. 98 years old. lol.

Hi Adam whattaya know, I live just blocks from Lincolns home-!! FYI a few years back they did a big restoration on Lincolns home, it was found the indoor plaster was falling away from the wood lathe strips, so to save the original plaster the actually removed ALL the exterior wood siding so they could access, re-key and re-anchor the plaster by plastering it in place from the back side - then they restored all the original exterior wood siding boards and insulated the walls before re-applying and repainting the outside in its original colors. Ive been through both Lincolns tomb and his house on multiple occassions over the years with other people. Wish I could have met you guys while you were here, watch your vids all the time. Theres also the Abraham Lincoln presidential museum and the Abraham Lincoln / Herndon law offices up town you can visit where he worked as a lawyer with his boys running amock at the same time.

Indiana has a Lincoln national park there’s several different things to check out around there too worth the stop if you guys get around southern Indiana again there’s also marengo cave that you can check out very cool thanks for sharing buddy They definitely built things to last back then I’m sure they restored a lot of the house but not many houses are even left from that time

Lincoln also lived in southern Indiana. There is a log cabin and the farm that he was raised on. There is a National Museum there too. It is close to Holiday World and Lincoln State Park at Lincoln City, Indiana. We enjoy your channel!

Thanks for showing this. I have lived here in Springfield almost my entire life and I take for granted it is still here. A true national treasure. New Salem is pretty interesting too, and should go when there are activities like the people dressed in period attire and when they do the plays at the theater. The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum is also really nice along with the restored Union Station Depot nextdoor.

Used to go to this house several times as a kid. I'm from Southern Illinois, so we always made several trips to Springfield for various things for either school or Boy Scouts, and family trips. Had some family friends that lived in Springfield so we'd go visit then every so often.

i remember visiting here in the 60's as a teenager. we all sat on the three holes of the outhouse., a daddy, mommy and kid size hole. there wasn't a chain by the door then. we joked about leaving a "lincoln log". that outhouse, in my mind was the highlight of the tour. we also visited greenfield village, in detroit, which housed the chair lincoln got shot in, and the gun.oh, and also kennedy's death car.

Adam the next time you're through the Springfield area and you want to check out more Lincoln history you definitely need to check out Lincoln's New Salem Village. There is a ton of historical places that aren't necessarily on any maps, just hit me up I can get you a list of places. Most are within an hour of Springfield and definitely worth checking out.

Love it! Adam, I met you in Ohio at one of the early open houses at NYC CNC / Saunder's Machine Works. As a "clue", my name is the first name of your Noga rep. at the time. anyways... As a "Yankee" I just highly value your trips in the Midwest and North. TBH, I dont watch ALL of your adventures content... but, I will say all your followers in those areas 100% watch them.. Yes, in the eastern Midwest isn't as "pretty" as the rock formations in the SW. we just have trees and unique culture... but, your followers just like confirmation their regions matter... hey, God bless and I hope you have a successful "Long Haul"

Thanks for another fun and interesting episode! We loved our tour of Lincoln’s home. The museum is amazing as well. Heading north? Check out the John Deere historic site near Dixon IL. Tells the amazing story of his struggles as a failing blacksmith (due to debt from from his shops burning down in Vermont) to his success after moving out “west” to Illinois! He never knew what a tractor was or would be. Just invented the singing plow! Dixon is also has the boyhood home of Ronald Reagan. All politics aside. His story growing up is quite incredible coming from very humble beginnings like so many presidents. Hello from your Southern Illinois friends from Indian Pass. (We will not even tell you what site we booked for our next trip there. Yeah. That one!!). Loved your trip to the Arch in STL. We were engaged there back in the 1800’s. We live 19 miles south of there in Southern Illinois. Safe travels!!

Cool! I live here and been through the house but not any of the others in the neighborhood. Also of note when you walked out the back door you had a shot of the tallest building in Springfield. Originally called the Forum 30. Was a Hilton recently and I can't recall who owns it now. Maybe Windham? Anyway it after it was built it has been affectionately called the "Penis of the Prairie" to us locals.

Adding to visiting New Salem, which is where Lincoln lived his young adult life (located about 20 miles northwest of Springfield), you should also visit the Old State Capitol where Lincoln served and gave the famous "house divided" speech. Plus Lincoln is buried in Springfield, and the tomb is located in the far north part of the city. All of those sites are run by the State, and are free to the public.

Love all Lincoln sites. He is my 1st cousin 5 times removed. Lucy Shipley Hanks, is grandmother on his mom's side is my 5th great grandmother. Unfortunately though you were lied to during your tour. The lincolns placed all belongings in storage in Chicago as they rented out the house while in DC. Ever heard of the great Chicago fire? All the possessions in storage burned up in the fire. All items in the house are accurate for the period but not the Lincolns.

Since you are close and seem to like railroad museums, check out the Monticello Railway museum in Monticello IL,, their railroad days is the following weekend. If you decide to go to MRM message me and I will let them know you are coming. Also if you go a bit further north to Union IL the Illinois Railway museum is one of the largest in the world and really takes two days to walk thru and see most of it.
