My style of C3 is play it playfully with fast tempo (Very fast) No ritartando at all and equal tempo. The most important is the slur and the accent for me and think about happy children jumping to increase style I think A2 is very fast and balanced playing in the left hand in the second part and the left hand should be Quiet. B1 should be natural with no artificial ritartando and do big inhales every bar to get the style and feeling And these are all my exam songs

@@aurorasinclair9471 In the Assoc Board grade 4 book the mistake is in bar 8b. The first flat sign in the right hand should be in front of the D, not the E. Dflat E natural and A should be the right hand chord.

I know that the fourth piece can be my own choice piece, but I don't have access to any other books or pieces recommended by the extensive list given by ABRSM. Hey Man, keep up the good work!-Sub Earned! I had a question regarding the exam. I have some difficulties with A1, generaly my hand touches a wrong note maximum 2 times while playing. Do you think I will get a drastic mark off if I touch a few wrong keys, but play with 95% accuracy?

Thanks for the compliment. Regarding the question I am sure how much that will affect the overall mark, it depends on your examiner. If you ask me, I’d say it wouldn’t be too drastic if we are talking of just a couple of notes

Depends. B1 is slower and easier to learn in my opinion but it has plenty of 5-6 voices chords. B3 is less dense but it has proven to be a little harder to learn for ome of my students. Anyways, the decision should be yours depending on how much time you have until the exam and which are your strenghts as a piano player. What does your teacher say?

Hi Kayden, if you’re into jazz and can scan the harmony of a piece with ease, I’d go with Billies song. Comparing Idylle and The nouvelle pouppe, I’d say the later may be slightly easier to sight read as the melody and the left hand chords moves in parallel. Anyways have a listen, and choose something you really like. How long to study grade 4 exam? I had a 20 year break but confidently doing grade 2 and 3 work and have an awesome teacher too. I play 1hr lesson fortnightly and in addition 2hrs straight per week. I love A2 A3, B2, C2 But tempted to go off piste with C section and do In Hall of Mountain King from extension options. I find B2 and C2 calm to listen to.

Seems like you are doing pretty well already! Congratulations 🎉 I’d prepare grades 2-3 all together and apply for grade3 exam. Then it’d be a good time to get onto grade 4. It’s difficult to assess how long it could take. Perhaps your teacher is better equipped to say! Follow his guidance and don’t leave aural and sight reading behind . 🤞

I passed Grade 5 at the age of ten, but then we moved away and I had no further lessons until the age of 18 when I suddenly found out that I had to pass Grade 6 for my A level Music (UK). So I had to start again - I had only 3 months to go from way below Grade 4 to Grade 6, and thankfully I passed. This led me to becoming a church organist and composer of choral music, both of which I still do at the age of 80! Playing the piano throughout your life stops you going mad - it is both creative and solitary - very calming. So I would say, if you once passed Grade 4, go back to it again and enjoy a life-time of pleasure! It is never too late and you will never regret it.
