Lovely video from Rivisondoli which we visited (on one of many trips to Abruzzo) a few years ago. Looking forward to be going back to the region ASAP

Abruzzo is open at the moment! So... fingers crossed that we can go back to travel soon! Also this is one of the most underrated regions in Italy, yet it has so much to offer!

So lovely. My family is from Catelguidone. We still have a house there and many relatives. It is very small, getting smaller by the day. But it is close to Schiavi di Abruzzo, Castiglone and Agnone. Beautiful Vasto is only 35 minutes down the mountain!

Such a beautiful region! My wife is absolutely in love with Abruzzo. We’re hoping things will improve soon, as we’d love to road trip Abruzzo and visit all the small towns. Each one has something unique!

Bellissimo!!!! My family lives in Abruzzo. They are in the Teramo province which is a bit further north. I enjoyed your video.💞😊

We’re hoping to be able to go touring Abruzzo and Umbria soon (fingers crossed): Teramo is on our bucket list!!!

@@TravellingDany May I suggest: Campo Imperatore and Rocca Calascio!! You will not be disappointed. Campo Imperatore has the most beautiful setting with wild horses. Rocca Calascio is a pretty easy hike up to the historic castle. If you go then be sure to film and upload to KZbin!!

Rocca Calascio is already on our bucket list, we’ve seen amazing pics online! We’re definitely also adding also your tips: I can’t believe people don’t visit Abruzzo more... it’s such a gorgeous region! Dany has been spending most of her summer vacations with her family in Southern Abruzzo for her whole childhood and is still deeply in love with the area. I confess I only went skiing in Roccaraso so I’m eager to discover everything I’ve been missing!

My maternal grandfather, Vincenzo Checca, was born in Pettorano sul Gizio, Abruzzo, in 1894 and immigrated to the US in 1910.

Oh wow! We haven’t been to Pettorano sul Gizio (yet), is it like the Abruzzo village in this video or more modern? And do you have plans to visit the region in future? My husband has family in Lazio and Veneto, so he tries to explore once in a while, in search of his roots!

@@TravellingDany I visited Pettorano sul Gizio in October 2016. The town hasn't changed much since the middle ages and certainly not since the 19th Century when Vincenzo lived there. Fortunately, it was spared during WW2, as it was evacuated, and from the earthquakes that flatted nearby D'Aquila. I discovered that Vincenzo returned to Italy in 1914 to fight in the Italian army during WW1. After the war, he returned to the USA, becoming an American citizen in 1924, never to visit Italy again. Vincenzo settled in Rhode Island, a state with an extremely high percentage of people of Italian descent, and married Teresa Abruzzese, who despite her name, was from Castellucio dei Sauri in Foggia, Puglia. Both Vincenzo and Teresa died before I was born. My father's side of the family comes from Forio, Ischa, and Pozzilli, Isernia Molise. I've visited all of my ancestral villages except for Forio. I was planning to retire to Italy as I have a UK passport; but BREXIT threw a spanner into my plans.

That is such a fascinating family history! Hats off, you almost visited all the places where your family members used to live! Ischia is pretty close to Naples, we have friends who live there, you’d love it! As for Brexit, we’re still hoping that time will smooth things out. We love the UK and yet we’re hesitant to visit again for now because of the super long lines at the airport :(

My Grandma's family is from Pettorano as well. They immigrated about the same time as your family and came over on the Prinzess Irene
