**POLITICAL AND TROLL COMMENTS WILL BE BLOCKED‼️**
**NOT SUPPOSED TO BE POLITICAL, FOR TV ARCHIVAL PURPOSES ONLY❗️**
This video was uploaded with the sole purpose of historical preservation and for the purpose of archiving Philippine television. This footage is to give a ‘preview’ of what Filipino television (especially ABS-CBN) was like prior to Martial Law, as there are little to none TV archives from that era.
This footage was filmed around early November 1969. The footage was taken by ABC veteran reporter Ted Koppel and his team when they were covering former President Marcos' 1969 election campaign, which pre-empted eight hours of programming. The 1969 Elections remains to be one of the most dirtiest in Philippine history.

My grandma was a dancer on this show at one point but the part where she is dancing for the beginning of the show is likely lost media unless I can find more footage and see my grandma on it but is the whole entirety of the show uncovered if not just tell me most is lost media. She described how Philippines during martial law was and she said “no radio, no television, no nothing and people part of law had to knock on houses and take money and food and killing people, even arresting people past if they were walking past nighttime” but she said she was unfazed by the whole thing.

yes, abs-cbn had an extensive film and music library of their archives, also including foreign films they purchased for airing. by 1973, after abs cbn shut down at the advent of martial law, benedicto’s kbs-9 (rpn) occupied the abs broadcasting center after their own studios were destroyed in a fire. by the mid-70s, both of benedicto’s stations (rpn, bbc) and government station gtv used the facilities, renaming it to broadcast plaza (rpn and bbc would later move to different facility-broadcast city-in 1978). under gtv and benedicto, the broadcasting center was poorly maintained, and as early as the late 70s, it had been reported that abs-cbn’s film library had disappeared. we can assume that sometime during gtv’s and benedicto’s time at abs’ broadcasting center, they tampered with abs’ film library, possibly reusing the film, or they could’ve stolen, destroyed or recycled them. however, some of those who worked with the benedicto stations during that time have continuously insisted that they did not do anything to abs’ film library. there were rumours within the broadcasting industry during the waning years of marcos’ regime that some of abs’ archives of “an evening with pilita” survived, but were apparently destroyed later on. regardless, it’s safe to say most if not all of abs’ pre-ml archives no longer exist (specifically under the offical abs archives), though who knows, they might end up in some private collection somewhere.

however, when we talk about pre-ml phtv footage, we often just talk about abs manila’s archives. something I’ve been curious about is the status of abs’ regional stations, and of course, the archives of other networks aswell (gma 7, abc 5, ibc 13, and rpn 9) and their respective regional stations. what happened to their pre-ml archives? if they did get lost, what was the story behind their disappearance? their statuses are unknown and it’s still very unclear, though we know that gma has at least archives from the early 80s and maybe the late 70s too.

@@stupidstickman exactly thats why i dont want to connect their disappearance to ml right away since many stations also didnt close but for some reason not even a fraction of the old programs in the 60s were put to safekeeping. India with their low income stature then did even better 😮

New employees of ABS CBN after Feb 1986 were told by pre martial law employees that during their time, tape was expensive and difficult to purchase. Hence, they recycled old tapes to shoot new programs. This is the main reason we can't find the original tapes of TV programs like Buhay Artista, An Evening with Pilita, etc. The library of ABS CBN then mainly consisted of foreign canned shows that were bought by the network. Archiving was not as extensive in the early days of Philippine television.

@@stupidstickmanJust watched this video... Grabe lang that we were able to watch a pre-ML ABS-CBN programming through another platform. Sayang talaga yung mga tapes and videos nila, which can be used now for cultural references... Hanggang banggit na lang kasi yung ala-ala ng mga programs eh... At least we can still see films, though yung mga na-survive nga lang... Saka how we wish, we can still see or watch the 1950s and 1960s TV trends...

This was ABS-CBN led to move its TV stations' frequencies in 1969 when DZAQ-TV Channel 3 moved to Channel 2 and DZXL-TV Channel 9 moved to Channel 4.
