In this video, we summarise the importance of accurate Distance Amplitude Correction (DAC) curves in a guided wave test result and how to rapidly, reliably and accurately calibrate the DAC curves using GUL's patented Absolute Calibration (AbsCal) method. The video also covers step-by-step examples on how to use AbsCal for three separate applications.
0:00 Introduction to GWT and DAC
02:01 Weld for DAC calibration and why 22.5% may be inaccurate
03:54 How does Absolute Calibration (AbsCal) work?
05:01 Advantages of AbsCal method
05:53 Example #1: Two welds
09:44 Example #2: One weld & one flange/cut-end
05:53 Example #3: Two flanges/cut-ends
The Absolute Calibration (AbsCal) method uses guided wave energy conservation equations and signal amplitude measurements of reverberation signals in order to calculate the reflection coefficients accurately. This is patented method by Guided Ultrasonics Limited and available via the WavePro software in a GUL Screening system.
GUL Screening provides metal pipeline inspection solution for the detection of corrosion, erosion and other damages using guided waves. The main applications include accurate detection and location of:
✅ Corrosion under insulation (CUI)
✅ Corrosion under pipe supports (CUPS)
✅ Sludge
✅ Pitting Corrosion
✅ Internal Corrosion
✅ Weld Defects
GUL Screening is ideal for the following applications:
⭕ Road Crossing Pipes
⭕ Buried Pipes
⭕ Wall Penetrations
⭕ Risers
⭕ Caissons
⭕ Tunnel Pipes
⭕ Pipe Bridges
