Exceptionally well specified when new, we're of the understanding that this particular Daimler XJ40 4.0 litre, chassis number 706868 with a Coventry a registration 'MDU' as used by Jaguar / Daimler was built at the end of production, which officially ended June '94, registered on the 1st May 1995 and then retained by Jaguar / Daimler for VIP use until passing to its first private owner, Mr Bill Martin OBE in 1997.
Proudly presented in Diamond Blue Metallic, this XJ40 4.0 litre model presents herself exceptionally well, the paintwork remaining excellent with a great depth of shine, her chrome trim, specific to the Daimler remains bright and the 16" Kiwi design alloys look fantastic. The quality continues on the inside too as on opening the door, the Daimler can't fail to impress. The seats, front and rear remain in beautiful condition, free from any scuffs etc and with the Daimler having its 'air line' still twin rear seats, unlike the standard bench found in period Jaguars, it's positively palatial in the rear..... and one cant help but love the beautifully designed fold down picnic tables, it's the perfect place for any business executive who might need to to stretch out travelling between meetings.
Mechanically the Daimler is gem too. We've driven her 50+ miles back after collection, the car coming from one of our previous customers. The AJ6 4.0 litre engine simply purrs along, cruise control set, just wafting along in one of Daimlers finest.
With just 84k miles, she's averaged a less than 3,000 miles/yr over her 29 years and further supporting the superlative condition this Daimler she come with a history file that most classic car owners could only hope to see. There's the full Daimler book back, stamped service schedule with a remarkable 17 service stamps (8 being Jaguar with all remaining through Jaguar independents), there's a full set of keys, correspondence and magazine clippings from the Jaguar Enthusiast Club meetings, original tool kit, jack & brace and naturally before delivery to her new owner she'll receive a further service, engineers health check and new MOT.
Whether your a Jaguar / Daimler enthusiast looking to enhance your collection or a classic car enthusiast looking for something truly special to enjoy on high days and holidays we feel this Daimler XJ40 4 litre is an stunning example and with all that luxury we'd be happy to drive her anywhere!

What a nice car! I'm surprised that it would be a 1995, as they were X300 by then and not a XJ40. I have a 1991 XJ40 Sovereign and I love it!

Yes it’s a very late production car that was retained by Jaguar/Daimler for VIP duties. We’ve also sold a pre-production X300 car too…..we like the rarities👍 Carry on enjoying your ‘91 XJ40

Several people have commented dissaggreeing with my posts about the series 3 V the later models . Granted that technology had progressed and that Jaguar sensed the customers wanted a change , but they were wrong . Wrong about the poor layout of the new digital dashboard that had to be retro fitted on later cars , wrong about the square headlights and wrong about the squared off styling so much that subsequant later cars tried their best to look like the series 3 but not quite hitting the mark . They may have better handling (who the hell in their right mind wants to take a series 3 or a 40 to the limit )_? and the 40 may well be a pleasant car . But it still aint a series 3 ! thats why even a glance to bangers and cash will show readers that the earlier series 2 and 3 are the cars people want and even Derek Mathewson will hapily confirm that the series 2 and 3 are still the best driving cars in the world today . Its not even about that though is it ? its about the shape of the car and what it makes the driver look like and feel like in the reflection in the shop windows as the car passes by . and for that the series 2 and 3 is a 1000 times the car that the 40 or its later efforts could or will ever be . Is the F type as cool a car as the E type ??

This car is just a Jaguar with a Daimler name on it. What they should do is sell the Daimler name to Hyundai/Kia, Mazda or some other company that wants to create a new brand of luxury car. In Adverrtisments they should have a character called "Daimler Ben."

Daimler founded 1896 v Jaguar founded 1935 …. Daimler is the luxury brand….I do think ‘Daimler Ben’ is the way forward, interesting idea though 👍

I dont see nor ever did see what people ever saw in this car that tried to step into the series 3's boots . The series 3 was designed to take the V12 engine from the outset the later 40 couldnt take the v12 without severe vibration and had to be hastily beefed up and in the event delivered a car of inferior quality ride and silence of its series 3 predecessor . Granted it was full of gimmicks contraptions and that awfull digital dashboard that had to be redesigned and in fact with the square headlights looked more like a Cortina than a Jaguar . Whichever way the series 3 was viewed , it was unanimously praised as truely gorgeous but the 40 with its awkward blend of straight lines and curves just didnt do it for anybody who was honest and a fan of the series 3

I get the feeling you didn’t like the XJ40 and ‘yes’ the 40 was ‘challenging’ in some respects but equally it has a place in the hearts of those who admire them now and happily this one is being enjoyed and loved by its new owner.

@@henryb9979 bravo sir…. You’re absolutely right, the ride quality is superb. Interestingly if you go back through the annals of time and Jaguar/Daimler history you’ll note the XJ40 was initially a concept back in the early 70’s.

The XJ40 is absolutely a modern classic and a pretty car. They do require better electronic skills to repair than the older ones, but I'm an electronic tech, so it's not difficult at all for me.

The XJ40 is worthy for the Jaguar name. Sir William Lyons approved it before he died in 1985. Performance is better, 4 speed ZF transmission, simpler body pressings, outboard rear brake discs, one fuel tank. Earlier models suffered electrical problems and rust since it was a clean sheet design. I've owned my '94 XJ6 since March of 2007. The series III is a gap filler, never should've happened but the XJ40 was late so they outsourced the design of the series III to Pininfarina. But I admit it's the best looking of all the XJ series.
