I reckon that second engine would have been golden had it been torn down and inspected, probably needed a clean, hone and new rings but it's costly and it's the gamble you take with second hand anything. You're sorted now it seems, fingers crossed this new long engine gives you no dramas for the next half a million k's.

It's good that you could get a brand new motor for an older Patrol, good price too I think. It was good of G works to let you use their shed to do the install. I was told to give it heaps when running in a new motor or rebuild but watch the temp and don't get it too hot

In 2006 after my daughter and I done our second Simpson Desert trip the shocky Towers on the rear end bent them up and the right hand side we were pinching the fuel lines. We got a truck manufacturing for trailers in Archerfield Queensland were the only ones who can brace up the rear end at that time. That cost $250. It was a GU Patrol 2005 model. I have a 98 model 105 series RV LandCruiser it has maxi flex coils all over on a 3-in lift it writes like you're on air suspension especially off-road as you let your toys down to 25 or 30 psi because I run all terrains at 60 PSI normally but trust me it is absolutely brilliant and it's from Pedders suspension.

There's been a bad batch of inj pumps in Aus with metal flaking off inside. Please pull the stop solonoid and check for metal. Ours was fully replaced by JP...a good guy..but other makers are not so generous, costing up to 2.5k to replace. Injectors too need replacing if pump has failing pressure head.

It will only last if its tuned properly, that Ireland Deisel pump is fairly smoky, you want it around 20/1 afr’s for it to be reliable
@Karakaboardriders Жыл бұрын
Agreed . Could just be dud engines but two doing the same thing could be a bigger problem with a bad tune and something else going on and it’s getting to hot cooking rings then smoking.

Don’t stress Tyler it’s just part of owning a car. Rebuild the other 2 engines and sell them on. I did the same went through 2 and then got a big $ rebuild done for performance and towing. You never know what a second hand engine has had happen to it through its life. Derks water pump only way to go. Stick it on the dyno get it tuned sweet arp head studs if towing and running over 20 psi just to be safe and send it. 💪🏽 Keep up the great work.

Yeah I agree you need to get it turned properly especially since you are towing the kitchen sink, and just because you’re Egt gauge says it’s safe doesn’t mean your air fuel ratio is correct, also a top mount intercooler is not sufficient for towing. I build engines for a living and when I see a crate motor cranking for so long without oil pressure I cringe, it should have been primed via the oil filters and galleries, you may have scored the bearings already. For heavy duty work I run Penrite 20W 60 to cushion the bearings and Penrite running in oil for first 100km.

because its a small 4x4, theres no room at the front, but, you can use an earlier grill, which makes room for a front mount. my inter cooler is 4 times that size & thicker.. this is why i wont buy jap stuff, as they never upgraded anything from the 40,s. i can take my hub off in 10 seconds. 1 circlip..no cv,s cos there garbage. weak.messy.plus there suspension set up radius arms are wrong design..does the new motor have more hp. or still 90 kw..from the 40,s. i have 175kw, 700 nm.. 4.2tdi. not jap..i dont get, how the japs, made a 3.0tdi, that blew up in 3 different variants. wouldnt a 2.8 cummins from a foton tunland be better, seeing its all cummins & dana. the best.. you need to watch yank vids & conversions, like the 3.0 bmw tdi, 300 hp.. a 7.3 tdi international v8 will easy do 1 million miles,. proven..
