Absolute Efficiency and Energy Resolution of High Purity Germanium and sodium iodide gamma detectors

In this video, we discussed the differences between high purity drain detectors and sodium iodide detectors. Specifically we look at the absolute efficiency of each detector, compare them between each type. Then we consider the energy resolution of each type of detector. #nuclear #energy #science

Is the germanium at room temperature here? I don't see any cryocooler connected. Any chance you could do a tour of the lab for us?

This germanium detector uses an electronic cooler. They have come around in the last 5 years or so. Much less of a hassle than refilling the liquid nitrogen. Love the tour idea!
