The fact that Dr Phil pulled him up as a massive publicity stunt really showed how hypocritical he was. Pulling him on live television, only for him to be a mirror image of Dr Phil probably sparked just a bit of self awareness in him.

I thought it was ridiculous how doctor Phil brings him on, broadcasts all the footage, then says stop! I will not publicize this! AFTER he publicized it!!!
@brianfitch54693 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't be surprised if that was the plan all along. To air the footage, have him come out dressed up mocking him just so dr phil can say I'm not going to advertise this get off my stage I'm not talking to you. Controversy brings views. Omg dr phil threw someone off stage from the start of the show I have to see this footage. I believe the whole thing was a skit for views and so phil could take the moral high ground. And anyone interested in what happens in the bumfights videos would go purchase it. It was a win win for both of them. They both got publicity and made money from it. Your telling me that dr phil in his own studio with his own production crew and team had no idea ty was dressed up as copy of him. The production team is the one who did it. There's no way in hell he walked on stage without phil knowing exactly what he was wearing and doing. You think ellen, oprah, mauri, etc have no idea how a guest is going to walk out. When the make up and production team is with the guest preparing them way before they walk on stage. He knew what the video footage was before he even stepped on stage. He knew why he asked him there. If he wasn't going to have the conversation and advertise it. Why broadcast the episode, why profit off something you say you don't support. Or better yet, why didn't he take the millions he made from advertisers, online views and such and take every dollar from that episode and actually do something with it. Just the taxes he paid on the profit from that episode could probably change the life of thousands of homeless people. Put your money where your mouth is. If you care so much about homeless being exploited do something about it. Don't donate because its a tax write off. Go build a apartment complex for the homeless and employ them to help build it. Not to a charity where 85% will go to administration fees. Funny how people like him will act like they care, and will only do what they can get back as a tax write off. And to a charity their lodge buddy owns. Charity's are the biggest scams of all. People have no idea how much. Hundreds of millions can be raised and couple million actually did something. Clinton's, your big religious charities, etc

@Mitchell Hart at least the whole point of Phil's show is to offer these people a chance to turn their lives around and to get whatever help that they need. Intervention does the same thing and it's helped dozens of people get clean and stay sober. Bumfights didn't help any of these people, sometimes it actually made them worse off than they already were. Some did get help or improve themselves but it's hard to say that the movies did that rather than just natural chance and desire. I don't like Phil very much and I find him to be condescending as hell at times but he does also slap people with a healthy dose of reality and I respect that. And at least Phil's participants are all willing and I'm sure are given a pretty penny as compensation for their time. They're both scummy but while Phil is only mildly scummy the Bumfights team committed crime after crime against the most vulnerable members of society who were too strung out to think straight or weren't able to defend themselves because they're some old crackhead vs several teenagers.

It was agony to put one foot in front of the other. Then I used to sleep in the corner of the St Sepulchre without Newgate which is just down the road from St Paul's Cathedral. Most churchyards in central London are locked up at night. At St Sepulchre they had to leave a small side gate open to allow access to some residential properties. There was an overgrown corner by the tower where you could lie down. People would pass within a few feet of you and they would never see you. They've cut back all the bushes now but at the time it was a safe place to sleep. The sheets of weathered stone that had exfoliated off the sides of the tower and shattered on the ground were a concern but I don't think they were heavy enough to inflict serious injury.

Jessie B there’s a world of difference between an ADDICT dying sober, and a NORMAL person dying sober. From your comment, I’m assuming that you’re not an addict (which is a good thing) but it might be hard for you to understand what sobriety means to someone who has to stay consistently vigilant when it comes to mind altering substances. An addict dying sober is something to be applauded. PS: While I DID write this, hoping to give you an idea of what sobriety means to someone whose struggled with drugs and alcohol, seeing this stuff written down helps me gain a little more perspective when it comes to MY issues with addiction. Which makes you an accomplice in my recovery, whether you like it or not.😁. Thank you!

richard trumpet Ok I’ll revise my statement. Being sober when you die is an amazing accomplishment for someone who has struggled with addiction. I DEFINITELY wasn’t implying that being dead and sober is better that being alive and “high”. I thought that the way I worded my comment got that point across clearly, but I guess it didn’t. An addict living “high” is obviously better that an addict dying sober. The point I was making was an addict dying sober, is better than an addict dying high.

He may have had his life cut short, but at least he got to experience sobriety for a while and try to keep people from falling into the same trap. I don’t tend to like homeless people, but I can’t help but wonder what potentially good people might have ended up so desperate due to sheer circumstance. I know Tim Pool was homeless for a bit, so while it’s not the same as being chronically homeless, it can happen to people I admire.

@@meowtherainbowx4163 typically its a mixed bag of people that are homeless. Ive been homeless twice in my life, both times for about 6-7 months. I was in one of baltimore city's thriving homeless communities, and at about a safe 50/50 ratio, to disabled or mentally challenged people with no one to care for or about them, or otherwise good people that caught a tough break, and the people that are homeless because they dont wanna change, and leech off society.

Many people you'll find in streets usually have an extremely short, but sometimes extremely bright life. I was homeless for a long time. As a punk, but not a junkie, and it is scary sometimes getting in bloody fights with junkies, whom you don't have if he have hepatitis, HIV or anything really. Many of those i knew back then are dead. but lived really intense and positive life at the end. Even myself who only drank alcohol and smoked weed, years of malnutrition, cold and suffering shortened my life. Even if i am still living in somewhat poverty, even if light years from poverty of being homeless, i hope i will soon be able to make my dent, an improvement in this world. We are all here for something. It is a very enriching experience also. Being with someone you just met, as hungry and as skinny as you, sharing half of his sandwich, sharing a cigarette, sharing a beer. Also some others who are there to steal your blanket, your coat, your shoes, your hard earned food for that day. I think you are doing good stuff with your videos mate. What i seen, drug dealers exploit a lot more homeless people than those guys did. It can be said it's their own decision for doing it, but an escape from suffering, an easy way out for a couple of minutes is very tempting. I fought a lot just to keep what i earned, if i had the opportunity to fight and know the other guy is clean, for 100$, i would have done it for sure. It's eating decently for at most 2 weeks, but still, or barely sustaining for a month without having to dumpster drive or beg. At least i had free healthcare here, i realize some didn't have that chance.

I could argue he died because he was at his best. He probably wouldn't have been in his sister's car if he was on the street still. But then you'd argue, he'd have died before then on the street. As to the point of not cleaning up because you'll die, that's a redundant argument. If that were true you'd kill yourself now, because there would be no point living as an addict or sober. The point of getting sober is to make a better life for yourself, those around you, those who could be helped by you or depend on you.

When I was 13 I bought a DVD called Bling Bling The Crackhead at my local record/movie store called Rasputin for $5. They sold it to me no problem even though I was a child. Me and my friends were in shock watching this guy being chained to a light pole for hours with a plate of crack just out of reach as the people filming laughed. I didn't know anybody else really knew of Bling Bling... I also didn't know he was in San Francisco where I work now, never seen him... Great video dude

@@kickz2828 yeah but I personally didn't know about bum fights until after I bought the random Bling Bling DVD, because it was the only movie I could afford at that place. I was 13 lol

Not much to be said, it was wrong and they were convicted for murder.

Yeah...their lives are fucking non existent at this point if they got a murder charge...basically gonna spend most of life in jail.

@@juice6199 Yeah id have to agree. Not much left to be said other than that they got their lives ruined by this whole ordeal as well. Its sad honestly.

Rufus was an inspiration and despite everything life threw at him he still managed to make an impact in the world. That should give us all hope for ourselves. Rest in peace.

I was a young kid when bumfights came out. Me and my parents used to watch dr phil together and my parents never really cared about me being exposed to more mature content (it was only dr phil after all) but my parents immediately ordered me to go outside and play when dr phil said to have any young children leave the room. i never understood why until i discovered bumfights years later.

These videos set the bar for today's clout driven fifteen seconds of fame but instead exploiting bums, it's how much you can degrade yourself. Rip Rufus truly inspiring

For you to admit these things about how you changed takes a certain amount of character. I applaud your honesty with the situation and your growth morally as a person.

Honestly though, I agree with the last guy. Dr. Phil just makes these people's problems worse by making them public and profiting off of it. He's made so many stupud stupid people famous and it hasn't helped anyone.
@ACanOfBakedBeans6 жыл бұрын
The only thing he's helped is his wallet. He's a charlatan. He's kind of like Alex Jones minus the conspiracy theories, but at least I can say I've actually been entertained by Jones at times. Phil is a complete douchebag
