Interesting review..... My daughter is in her 20's and has struggled with dandruff since she was a child. We have tried many products over the years, and NOTHING got rid of her flakes. She tried Hair Story New Wash a couple months ago on the advice of her hair stylist friend, and her dandruff is FINALLY gone and her hair looks fantastic. So, we are big fans of this product!

I’ve been using it for years and am a big fan too! I wonder how many times he used it. You don’t need to use the scalp brush- don’t complain about that lol. After being a consistent user I don’t need to wash my hair as much, literally 1-2 washes a week instead of what used to be every day.

Hairstylist here who uses New Wash at home and in salon. I LOVE IT! I will never go back to "Normal" shampoo/cond. I can say that the Deep formula is not my favorite, and those with super fine hair and oily scalp tend to have the hardest time dialing in how much to use, and which formula. I recommend trying the Original formula. For you, one and a half pumps, or the size of a small brussel sprout. When starting out, use more, and as your scalp normalizes, you can use less. Professional shampoo & conditioner is easily $60 here, and New Wash is around $40. Washing 3-4 x's a week, one step, I'm saving money!

I used Wen in the past. My hair is thick, long and curly. Wen's directions were for you to section out your hair to wash etc. I found it took a lot longer to wash my hair and I don't remember being overly impressed with the results. I didn't use it long. I also find hair care products to be expensive. I can't imagine spending $200 a month or more just in hair care alone. And when most of the bottle is water anyway, it really feels like a waste.

The Wen infomercials always looked so appealing to the point I was tempted but I never purchased it. And I'm glad I didn't because I then saw lots of reviews online of people saying their hair was falling out! eeeeek! 😯 That said, I guess I'm fairly lucky as I can pretty much use anything on my hair, from budget to high-end and my hair is perfectly ok, despite me regularly bleaching it.

I started using Hairstory at the start of this year and I’m surprised with how much I like it. It did take me a little while to figure out how to work with it. I use the regular type on shoulder length hair and get an extra days wear per wash compared to my old shampoo. I totally agree with you about the dry shampoo- it’s horrible. And the fragrance is enough to give me a headache.

I haven’t tried this one, tried Wenn back in the day as someone gave me their barely used order. TBH it sounds in many ways like a co-wash which is aimed at curly and Afro hair, and that they’re trying to market it to everyone - which definitely isn’t going to work. Co-washing works for us Curlie Gurlies & Guys because we, generally, have significantly dry hair and scalp.... it’s also why we can get away with leaving it longer between hair washes.

@@reikiwithcary2682 like I said, haven’t tried it, and having finally found something that is working for me I’ve stopped paying attention to things like this unless someone I know and trust mentions them in some way. I’ve not actually seen any advertising for them, but I’m going to have to be very on top of this to make sure my Mother doesn’t spot one and decide it’s going to be her next big purchase from FB or a shopping channel and ends up in The Cupboard of Shame smh. Finally! Someone with oily hair is talking about the struggle! I am not sure how this happened but I have oily hair and dry skin. I have friends that wash their hair once a week, some of them twice. They keep trying to get me to buy these products that should extend the time between washes that just never work on my hair. My hair actually clumps up and somehow manages to look worse with the oil that is making it do this. I end up washing my hair more because I am constantly washing out all of these products? I finally just tell my said friends that it will not work and I am not spending another dime. I wish I could go a week without washing my hair every single day, it would at least extend the color I have on my hair, but since this is my reality, I just move on. Yes, products to take away my oil do not work and makes it feel dry and kind of plastic while at the same time clumping it together. Thank you, I feel vindicated now! ❤️

I have oily hair too and I've never had an issue with cowashes or cleansing conditioners. They've always make my hair and scalp feel clean. You do have to make sure you really work it into the scalp and use one of those scalp massagers. It really gets the product into the scalp and cleans it. Then you have to really scrub when you're rinsing to get it all out. It never made me be able to go longer between washes, but I always felt clean and my hair was always super soft

@@flora4908 Hi! My hair is quite unruly and I found the gold lust shampoo, conditioner and oil works wonders like nothing ever before. The Royal Blowout is brilliant before blowdrying if your hair is unmanageable usually because it really smooths it out, the texturising spray in between washes is brilliant, better than dry shampoo. It is really expensive though so I really have to think which do I need most-and use it very sparingly. I mix the shampoo and conditioner with Olaplex to make it go further sometimes. But its a brilliant range and natural, so good if you suffer with sensitive skin/scalp like me, its just the price tag!

My cousin is a hairdresser. I have listened to so many rants about haircare misunderstandings and misinformation. She rolls her eyes and groans every time two in one stuff is mentioned. Basic chemistry says it won't work, she tells me. Something about shampoo "opening up" hair fibres, and conditioner "closing" them again because they have different PH levels; one is acidic, the other is basic. They do opposite things, according to her, and you will never get the same result if you mix them. As for having to wash your hair every day because it gets greasy every day, she's explained to me that if you wash every day, your scalp will produce more oil, to keep up with the cleaning. If you just clench your teeth and tolerate the grease, and start washing your hair every other day, or every third day, THEN your hair will eventually stay non-greasy for much longer. As long as you keep washing every day, you will never stop getting greasy that quickly either. The more often you wash it, the quicker it will produce oils. I wash my hair twice a week now. Used to wash it every second day. And yeah, there was a long period where I got as greasy as when I washed every second day, but after a while, the oil production and scalp irritation calmed down. My scalp is healthier and, ironically enough, less dry now when I wash less often.

So the issue with wen and other cowash type products is that it doesn't deep clean your scalp and hair follicles. So once a week or so you have to use a clarifying shampoo to clean the gunk out. This is the case with any shampoo product you use. You have to deep clean your scalp every so often. But if you use something like wen exclusively, you're never getting the follicles completely clean so product buildup occurs and they get clogged and your hair falls out. I love hairstory and other cleansing conditioners. I just have to make sure I use a clarifying shampoo every now and then since I have oily hair and gunk builds up

I use a wet brush to massage in through my hair and also to help me get it out. I wash my hair 1-2x per week. I buy the largest size - I think it’s 32 ounces - and it lasts for months. @@TracyD2 it’s really not, more like a cleansing conditioner. It doesn’t lather at all. When I think of cowashes I think of 2-1 shampoo/conditioners, which still lather and strip your hair. L’Oreal makes an inexpensive cleansing conditioner that I’ve always liked, which is somewhat similar. Hairstory’s products allow me to go longer between washes, though. It’s pricier than say your average shampoo but it’s very concentrated and wayyyy cheaper than hairstory and the like. I use the warrior shampoo and the serenity conditioner. There’s also lighter conditioner as well since you don’t need it for the length. If you try it I so would love to hear your thoughts! Hope this helps ❤️

Co-washes are a no, no for your oily hair. Co-wash stands for conditioning wash and is made for curly/textured hair. The Melanin company makes a fantastic shampoo called African Black Soap Reviving Shampoo. The ingredients are GREAT and it’ll strip all of the gunk and oils out. It’s extremely clarifying, but with nice ingredients that are soothing to the scalp. I know because I use it. It’s a 16oz bottle, $24 US dollars and it’ll last forever. Just use a light conditioner afterwards. Good luck! Edit: I forgot to mention that I highly recommend you purchasing a fine tooth metal comb, such as a Nit comb. Work it through your hair while you have your shampoo on. You’ll be removing all of that dead skin from your scalp, drastically reducing itchiness. It works!

I bought Hairstory after being highly recommended by a professional, and it was awful. I kept thinking it would get better with use, as the directions insinuated, but it just coated my hair and it took me awhile after I stopped using it to get rid of the buildup. It was a $45 mistake for me.

Omg, what a mess! I use that Batiste for Blondes as a dry shampoo as well and it does work pretty well and very reasonably priced. I put it on at night so residue wears away as I sleep. Or, after I use it, I spray a bit of hairspray on a brush and run it through my hair and it helps remove powdery residue.

I have used New Wash for a few years now (my old favorite got discontinued). That said, I haven’t used traditional shampoo for almost 10 years now. The transition to a “no poo” is much longer than a week. It’s really closer to 4 weeks. It’s almost like your hair goes thru a weird puberty! 😅 Anyway, I don’t use their dry shampoo powder and I can still go several days on one “shampoo” of New Wash. The larger package lasts me longer than the 5 months autoship. If you decide to give it another go, stick with it for at least one month. The other aerosol dry shampoos can get you thru the transitional period.

Hi Wayne. Have you tried the L’Oréal clay range ( pale green bottles)? My sons loved it in their teens when they had oily hair. They used the shampoo & dry shampoo, skipped the conditioner. It smells amazing, works and is cheap as chips.

I used to use Wen. It took almost a month before my scalp got used to the product. I also bought multiple small bundles of different scents/ formulas until I found what worked best for my hair. I have long hair and would only use it on my scalp. However outside of freezing spray. I don't use a lot of styling products. For me Wen worked fine but I stopped using it bc I had lost my job and it was too costly for me to continue. When I went back to regular shampoo, I had the same problem where it took a month for my hair and scalp to readjust to a different product. I now only wash my hair maybe once or twice a week. Again I had really greasy hair by the 3rd day but after a month or so of washing it twice a week, I find the oil/ph balance is different and my hair doesn't get as greasy at the roots. And even though i don't wash my hair everyday, I do rinse it in the shower under cool water every other day and that seems to help my scalp feel refreshed. Outside of a deep conditioner once a week and Bio Silk on the length of my hair, not the scalp, after washing or rinsing, I don't use other hair products except a freezing spray hair spray. Hair spray dries out my roots with so it tends to not feel greasy and helps prolong a less greasy but full bodied look. Point is, it takes WEEKS to a MONTH or two before the oils of the pores and the ph balance of the scalp skin balance themselves out. Only now with washing my hair twice a week can I afford to spend money on high end products bc I use so little of it and it lasts me ages. Hope this helps anyone with an oily scalp when trying different methods of washing and conditioning. 🙂

I never tried Wen but it sounds similar. Me, I found my HG shampoo and conditioner duo - I love INNERSENSE - both the moisturizing hair bath line and the daily line, depending on the weather. I only wash maybe twice a week and wash the other days with just a thick conditioner product from my local salon that's all natural. I have curly hair.

Wayne, that’s so weird! I’ve been using this for years. I have semi-dry hair (not overly) and I wash every day just because I prefer to. I don’t even use the scalp scrubber - I use my fingers. And a pump and a half of product. And it works GREAT for me! 1.5 pumps for my chin length hair and 2.5 pumps when my hair is past my shoulders. I get compliments on my hair and my hair guy always says it still feels like it’s in good shape. I don’t use any other product most days.

And I have an oily scalp. The only thing i don't like about New Wash is the price. It is wayyyyy over priced. I will finish using the rest of it, but will only purchase it on rare occasions. I have been using this for 6 months, I have fine hair and it makes my hair super full and shiny and encourages bounce. I use maybe 3 pumps and leave it in for a few minutes after massaging it through. I rinse way more thoroughly than with normal shampoo or conditioner. It doesn't fade my hair colour, so for me, so far, it's worth it

Wow. WAY over priced, even if it worked- and that scalp brush, or variations, can be found very cheaply almost anywhere. About oil/greasy hair- I know this sounds counter intuitive, but have you tried using straight jojoba oil as a pre-wash "conditioner?" I love it on my scalp and hair and often put it in the night before (and wear a cap to protect my pillow) and then wash it out in the morning. I've read it's the closest plant oil to our own sebum. I use it on my face nearly every day, massage it in thoroughly and then wash lightly with Cerave moisturizing face wash. It's a great combination for me. I have a dry scalp, though, and an oily face but it seems to help both conditions. Anyway. Love your videos! And your glasses are so freaking good on you! Seriously "hot professor" vibes all over the place. :)

I can see why people have trouble with New Wash if they don't already use clean beauty products shampoo bars. Since it's primarily oil/butter based your scalp undergoes a transition period where it gets oily at first and then your oil reserves sort of balance out; that's when you can wash less often. The other problem is that people don't brush their hair more and move those scalp oils around and get healthy circulation; possibly another reason the scalp over produces oil. I wonder if you just rinsed your hair every other day instead of washing if that would help?

I bought Diva Curl thinking I could coax my wavy hair into not having to curl it every day. My hair was break off. Just snapping off. My hair stylist thought it was my Dyson Hair dryer and told me to stop using it. Well that is a pricey hair dryer and I love it. So I tried to figure out what I changed besides that. I opened my cabinet a few days later and saw the Deva Curl. I started researching it and sure enough there were tons of videos about the Diva Curl causing massive hair loss and breakage. I stopped using it immediately, kept using my Dyson and next visit to my stylist 6 weeks later, she asked what i did because my hair was so much better. I told her I threw away the Diva Curl and went back to my Lanza Trauma Treatment after washing and my hair was back.

Cowash is usually for dry and curly or coily hair and even then people don’t usually use just any hair styling products they want. You have to make sure there isn’t silicones and other residue builders in the styling products because cowash isn’t strong enough to wash those away. Like wax or pomade is not gonna be properly removed with a cleansing conditioner. I don’t know anything about this brand but I’ve heard other cowashes can be good.

For dry shampoo m'Chel Day After is the best I've tried! They have an innovative applicator. No starches in the product. It is silica based and only absorbs the scalp oil without leaving the hair dry. Smells really good (some type of essential oil mix not over powering). Gives great volume too. Initiall purchase is a but pricey however I had my first purchase before my refill last me over 5 months.

Are you sure you were supposed to use 4+ pumps? Maybe it was supposed to be just 1 or 2, and you just overloaded your hair with it. I’ve never heard of this one, so it might be exactly as bad as you experienced. But I was just wondering because I can’t believe it was intended for a week of use. OMG Wayne, I had the same problem with greasy hair. During the lockdown in my country in 2020 I decided to just stop washing it that often. What I did was that I started washing my hair once a week. It looked awful, but I kept my resolve to break the cycle so I kept my hair tied in a bun when it was greasy. We were in lockdown for two or three month so I did this once a week washing routine throughout the whole lockdown period. Now my hair gets greasy like about 1 cm in length from the scalp starting the sixth day. I have never used dry shampoo on it or any other products other than regular shampoo (the main one is Le Petit Marseilles for oily scalp for the first round of washing and after rinsing I alternate other different shampoos for colour some days, for volume some other days, etc.). In conclusion my hair looks really good and healthy even tho my type of hair is thin. Also another good thing that happened, it stopped falling. 😁

Wow! What a horrible product! How they’re getting away with charging so much for any of those products is beyond me. I haven’t even ever heard of this brand let alone try it, but I certainly won’t be trying it now. I don’t mind paying a bit extra for shampoo and conditioner if they work. Right. Now I’m using Matrix Biolage Color Last shampoo and conditioner and I really like them. I am not oily at all. But also not too dry. I only wash my hair about once a week and use the dry shampoo in between washes. I use the Batiste as well. I really like it. Sorry you wasted your money on those hair products but thank you for showing us and doing a review. I value your opinion and look forward to your videos. Keep on shining! ❤️🌟💫

Ohh yeah so the "deep" tends to leave fine hair (like mine!) greasy for some reason. I think it might be because of the amount used. If I use less (like much less, probably 1 it 3 pumps for your length), it washes out better and not greasy. The original works much better for fine hair, but then you need to use the full recommended amount. I adore lift, undressed AND the powder (it gives me great volume). But the prices are.... Whew. I wash my hair once or twice a week though, so I get more mileage out of it. ALSO New wash has gotten rid of the cradle cap on both of my kiddos in 1-2 applications. And.... I love the smell of DEEP. LOVE it.

When this company started, the hair cleanser was called "Purely Perfect Cleansing Cream," & it worked great on my oily-by-the-evening-of-the-morning-washed oily hair. Then they changed the formula & changed the name to Hairstory. That product did not get the oil out of my hair. This new version, "New Wash Deep," is not nearly as good as the original "Purely Perfect Cleansing Cream," in my case. The ONLY advantage for me is that I do not have to lather 3 (t-h-r-e-e) separate times plus conditioner in the shower every morning. The Augustinus Bader hair system works well for me, but it takes sooo long each day. As for the New Deep Wash, I have put it into a 10-hole squeeze bottle & squeeze it onto my scalp - so that I don't waste so much. My hair is OK; it is my scalp that needs de-greasing. I don't know.
