The MTV 1990 VMA performance is a jaw dropper. A total departure from the style of the video in the best possible way! And its totally unlike anything you'll see on tour as well. This video was directed by David Fincher, who also made the Express Yourself and Oh Father videos. Many of the shots were recreations of actual "Old Hollywood" portaits and fashion photography by George Hurrell, Horst, and others.

I love all the things you are saying about madonna and what she was bringing to culture through her art. because of all the hubbub and controversy that often surrounded madonna over the years, it is easy to to overlook the important ways madonna gave voice to women, to gay men and lesbians, to drag queens, to trans, to artists, to being sexual, to anyone on the margins. she really is a brilliant woman, who used her art to change and challenge culture. she was my exact generation, her first hits began when I was a sophomore in high school, and I watched her all through the rest of high school, into college, into my young adult life, my adult life, and here I am at 55. (dear god!) I admire Madonna to the skies. I love her hits just as much today as I did back when they were released. Her videos were always the top of the top. She was unafraid to speak her mind politically. She did A LOT for gay and lesbian visibility. And she was such an important voice at the beginning of the AIDS epidemic. Madonna, Joan Rivers, and Liz Taylor made AIDS awareness a priority, at a time when nobody would talk about it. This was so major and so important. i am a proud Madonna fan. She brought an excitement and glamour to the music scene. She always had something new to show us.

1989: Like A Prayer, Express Yourself, Cherish, Oh Father, Dear Jessie 1990: Keep It Together, Vogue, Hanky Panky, Justify My Love On top of that the Dick Tracy movie, the iconic Blond Ambition tour and then at the end of 1990 the release of the Immaculate Collection album which went on to sell over 30 million worldwide...She really was peaking in a commercial sense at this time, Madonna-mania for sure.

The most see is definitely the MTV VMA performance 1990 where she stole the show and its still considered one of the most iconic MTV awards performances of all time, not just by her but by anyone. It usually tops polls. Unusual for her, it is mimed but it goes with the whole ballroom theme and once you see the choreo, you will understand.

The iconic live performance would most definitely be the 1990 VMA's version. She mimes it, but the whole performance is incredible and so different to the video. I'm also hoping you'll react to Sooner or Later before you react to the Blond Ambition tour. She does a live performance of that song on that tour, but the one to react to is the Oscars '91 performance of Sooner of Later as it's one of her most fantastic and incredible vocals ever.

She does this a lot on tour - so eventually you will see them all SO for that reason you MUST do the MTV VMA performance ICONIC performance where she brings DRAG to mainstream. Easily ranked as the best MTV VMA performance of all time by any artist. Also - since there were only 2 singles from “I’m Breathless” - You should also see her performance of Sooner or Later from the Oscars. The song wasn’t a single, but the performance might be one of her best vocals of all time.

Gosh, ladies - that's a big ask to choose only one live 'Vogue' performance. Asking to choose only one favourite live Vogue performance would be equivalent to asking a mother or father to choose their favourite child in a large family....lol. I understand from previous nominations for live performances you came to an agreement that the "Blonde Ambition Tour" was out of bounds because, as rightly advised, the tour must be watched as a whole and not dissected as it is the first Madonna 'Musical Theatre' style tour. It really must be seen as a 'WHOLE'. That being said, I suggest watching the live MTV Awards 1990, where Madonna (her inspiration was the Palace of Versailles Maria Antoinette), along with all her dancers from the Blonde Ambition Tour, performed it flawlessly.; Madonna didn't sing live due to the heavy outfits worn along with the choreography and the need to have free hands to vogue. Madonna's lipsyncing is also her way of paying homage to the gay drag community, who let Madonna into the once secretive space and gave her the Vogue dance gift. The other live performance you must watch is during the 2012 Super Bowl halftime performance; Madonna didn't lipsync for that performance (more people watched Madonna live at the halftime show than people who watched the football match).

Awesome reaction ladies....again! I lived in the West Village in NYC from 1986-97, and many late nights we'd cross the street on the Westside Highway to check out the dancers that were voguing on the Piers, often times celebs like Madonna would be there hanging out. Always a fantastic time. 2 fantastic live versions are Sticky and Sweet Tour and the MDMA Tour.

I was wondering if you would review the singles from I’m Breathless…. Brilliant. Wise choice, preceding the review of the Blond Ambition tour. This song was inspired by ballroom culture in the 1980s in New York City. She re-creates the ballroom atmosphere in her Celebration tour, which you will see when you attend. The best live performance is from 1990 MVAs. It is one of her most iconic moments in her history of performing. Please review 1990’s VMA performance!!! ICONIC!!!! Great reaction, ladies 😊 All the dancers in this video are the ones who toured with her on the Blond Ambition Tour and theyre heavily featured in her documentary 'Truth or Dare' - A must see if you havent seen it!! As for a live version, I also agree that MTV Awards is iconic - she lip syncs referencing Drag Shows and of course underground gay culture, from which inspiration for the song was born! For an actual live singing version Sticky and Sweet tour is also great ❤

I (Brenda) saw the video when it came out originally (hadn't seen it in decades though). And Emily had heard the song on the radio but had never seen the video. ❤️❤️
