This is a short review on OpenRCT2 one the best and most fun mods around. OpenRCT2 is an open-source re-implementation of RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 (RCT2), expanding the game with new features, fixing original bugs and raising game limits. The gameplay revolves around building and maintaining an amusement park containing attractions, shops and facilities. The player must try to make a profit and maintain a good park reputation whilst keeping the guests happy. OpenRCT2 allows for both scenario and sandbox play. Scenarios require the player to complete a certain objective in a set time limit whilst sandbox allows the player to build a more flexible park with optionally no restrictions or finance.

Programming in Assembly sets isn't as difficult as you think it may be. It can be very close to C if you use proper register/stack convention. Mind you there is practically never a reason when making a game like RCT2 nowadays but I can understand why Chris Sawyer did it at the time. He really went the extra mile by doing that and you can tell with the rock solid game he made. Very well made video sir.

OpenRCT2 recently raised the limits and now has a new save format in use in the develop builds, you might want to re-visit some of those new things, a lot has happened in the last 4 years :)

@@vika0194 First of all, no it didn't. Maybe go take an English class so you can learn to read and write better. Your sentences are incomplete and hard to understand. 2nd, why are you flipping out and losing your cool? What is better was clearly the era where games were designed to be fun...not to milk a player base dry. Games like this didn't have some corporate agenda with a terrible battle pass system. They just instead relyed on being fun games that people wanted to play for hours. Yeah sure technology has come a long way and ganes look better nowadays, but older games and generations will forever be superior.

This video rekindled my interest in the game after 20 years. I remember playing the trial A LOT, and then I bought the games + expansions on CD. I was mostly in it for building and did not understand the management part. A couple of years ago, I bought RCT 2 on Steam and I never played. Now, since a week back, I am playing OpenRCT on my Mac. Such a good game!

The problem with low level code is that its one, confusing as all hell, and two, not really friendly to platforms it was never designed to run on. But I think people have been writing converters to port it to more human readable languages.

Definitely planning to install OpenRCT2 on my future gaming PC after watching this video (and I have physical copies of the games and their expansion packs, rather than Steam versions of it), and I also think OpenRCT2 makes the whole RCT experience even better than when I last played tons of RCT2 back in 2014 :)

I've long been disappointed with the currency selection in RCT. You can change "$" to like "€", but the actual numerical value won't change, just the currency marker, so a balloon would cost an amout equal to about 15 cents, instead of a dollar. In 1999. And of course, when I was a kid, I set it to the currency to that of my country, and set the prices to what made sense to me, and lose the scenario. Have they changed this?

I totally forgot about this game, cant tell you how many hours ive spent on this back in the day :D Edit: $3 bucks on GOG, got it up and running with openrct2 and I’m seriously impressed. Especially the “unlock FPS” toggle which makes everything run so smoothly, especially animations. Well boys, time to lose myself in this game again 🙂

I've been playing RCT 1, 2, and 3 since the beginning. I came back to the series with RCT Classic for my android phone. I beat the game, and am now doing a Mega Park run. Afterwards, I want to make a beautiful park run. But putting scenery down, let alone making a building from walls and roofs is a bit frustrating. I heard of this OPENRCT2 for a while and wasn't so sure what to think. Now I feel like, okay I get it now. I'll keep this in mind when I get a gaming PC soon.

Did they add more support for 45° angle track? Instead of working on the standard left and right 30° I had built a successful Cedar Point Recreation using the 45° so the park midway went straight up the screen. The only sticking point was some track and the boarding stations did not have this angle available so the coaster recreations were not exact.

open the service lid at the bottom of your laptop and disconnect the fan, clean it and the heat sink fins with a brush and then put it all back.

Just jumped into the mod today... Good Grief, it feels brilliant to play, even now! Quick warning, if your game installs are on a different HDD to the typical place, it does throw its toys out the pram at first. Once that initial bit's done, you can patch in RCT1 from where-ever, which for a guy who just wanted both original games in 1 box is awesome - saves having to pay for the mobile classic port.

Do you know if it's possible to stop having the right click lower the window scale factor? it's probably in the shortcut keys, but when i open the shortcut key box, half the pop up box is above the top of my screen so i can't grab the top of it to move it. Anybody have any ideas?

my computer recently shit the bed so i installed linux ubuntu on it and it's actually running great... it was a bit of a hassle to get it going though. i had to run steam in wine which is a windows "emulator" to download my rct2 files then i have to open rct2 using a terminal command, makes it seem like i am an elite computer hacker guy but really it took me 3 days to figure out. but now that i have it all figured out the game runs perfectly! if anyone else is trying to figure this out on Ubuntu 18.04LTS/19.10 ..... -go to steam website and right click copy the link location for the *WINDOWS* installer open terminal and type "wget *PASTECOPIEDURLHERE* " that will install steam on wine then in terminal type "wine steam.exe" that'll open your steam launcher and now you can download your rct2 and you can play it normally. now to get openrct2 repeat that same process but with the link for the open rct2 launcher from their website however to launch it i had to find the whole file path like this: "wine /home/MY USERNAME/.wine/drive_c/Program_Files/OpenRCT2/openrct2.exe" *if you run into an issue launching open rct2 from terminal, its because its in program files in a wine directory, terminal doesnt accept spaces in an address so you have to go manually put an underscore on "program_files" another thing ive noticed is that it will put your save game files in your *linux* my documents for some reason, those are the real files so dont delete them, that could just be because i havent played around with the save directoy

You ran the Windows version of OpenRCT2 on Linux. There is no need for that, you can just use the native Linux version. There is a PPA for Ubuntu. Downloading the RCT2 files from Steam is also possible using the native Linux Steam client. Your approach works, but it's way more complicated than necessary.

I have all my old RCT2 disks and back up CD-ROMs but I have never tried to install this on Win7Ult. I was originally using WinXp when I was hooked on this. It would be so cool if I really could import my custom parks. I was using a trainer to make custom scenery such as a Strawberry Phillies Blunt Shop and coaster supports that changed color for a light display (for my Millennial Force).

I'm 12, Rollercoaster tycoon wasn't part of my childhood (I'm not saying that i'm not a child anymore) But when I was 11 I saw OpenRCT and was interested, I played it and loved it. Yes, i did play RCT3 and Planet Coaster before, but this game attracts me somehow, idk how, but now I like it more than Planet Coaster and RCT3.
