The language is Old Norse. It's not from AC: Valhalla. It's based on an ancient poem by Egil Skallagrimson which was popularised in the TV series Vikings.

The video shows a „Holmgang“, which was a Viking ritual to resolve conflicts in order to avoid feuds and bloodshed in a warrior culture. Two opponents would fight w/o armour, and the one who first drew blood (whose strike hit first, I mean), won. This was seen as a hint from the Gods that they were in the right, and the decision was adamant. Those who would not accept it might be banned from the clan. Btw opponents were supposed to fight with all their heart - but they were not expected to kill each other. It did happen, though. In this case, as the quarrel was plain stupid to begin with, the result was a draw. ;) The video was filmed in a Viking museal village in southern Lower Saxony, and to my information, it was not summer. So it was cold and damp, as to be expected in the area. (I think the Band have a “behind the scenes”-Video on their KZbin channel. It’s German, though.)

Alea (the main singer and "fighter" in the video) would definitely know about distance control for actual fighting, he's a Shaolin-trained Kung Fu trainer 😉 So yeah, this was certainly done to get both in frame for a good shot 🙃

As an RPG/gaming nerd, you should definitely check out Blind Guardian. One of the legends of German speed/power metal. Children of the Smith could be a good introduction for you, even if it's not really typical for the band.
