One day later than usual due to some uploading issues, but here is the final video of our abstract art explained series. Please note this overview is a simplified version of art history, with art movements overlapping and developing dynamically from one decade to another, as is our limited selection of main representatives. For a more extensive take on abstract art history, I really recommend the publication linked in the description! Enjoy and chat soon!

Thank you so much! Abstract art has always been frustrating to me. I've never really understand it and seen it as a joke. But I watched your videos and gained some perspective. It's not my favorite art movement, but I respect it and started understanding it a little bit. So, thank you! It's been a great educational resource!

This narrative large focuses on how abstract art movements developed in America. I would have included representation of how Abstraction developed in Europe, movements such as Informalism and Matter painting, which dramatically differed from the American approach. x

Congratulations on the videos, and the education they provide. Personally I like De Stijl or Neo Plasticism, but it seems that it is something rare to see as a reference in current painters. Am I wrong? Are there any contemporary painters where this influence is visible? Thank you Miguel

Is there geometric abstract as a type of abstract art?
@contemporaryartissue2 жыл бұрын
Yes, there certainly is. Geometric abstraction is abstract art depicting geometric shapes, most often with hard edges. Other types of abstract art are op art (optical illusions), lyrical abstraction, monochromes, and expressive abstraction

There was a lot going on for sure; the emergence of photography made us rethink the role of painting for years, the industrial revolution and the rise of modern life made us believe in radical innovation and progress, and the World War was indeed another catalyst. A Copernican revolution in art.

What you have to say about abstract surrealism???
@contemporaryartissue2 жыл бұрын
Abstract Surrealism of Joan Miro and Jean Arp is not 100% abstract as it is derived in a surreal manner from representational forms-but it is as powerful!

Needs reviewing as first abstract artist was a woman Hilda ef Klint - think that is her name
@contemporaryartissue Жыл бұрын
Dear Jane, thank you for tuning in. We included Hilma Af Klint in an other video from this series discussing how and when abstract art emerged. In this video, we discuss the most prominent abstract art movements. Af Klint was kind of isolated, and does not necessarily fit into a historical art movement, hence being excluded from this video. I hope this might clarify the issue. Thank you for tuning in!

In your complete and clear overview of abstract art , it seems , you've Overlooked me , Robert Morri. You won't believe it , but I'm the most prolific and original artist in the world at this moment. The reason I'm overlooked is probably the total lack of Honesty one encounters in the Art World . Plus art has put me in the poorhouse so that I can't reach a sufficient audience , nevertheless I'm that rare case of having objective claims to fame that are but cannot be denied . I invite you to test you're HONESTY on me . I can be found on Facebook where for the last ten years I've been growing my art daily so why not take a look ?

Why dose the past always have to be the future and why can’t the moment just be the moment. There’s always new techniques dose it really matter whether an artist did it in the 20th century verses the 15th century it’s new to the 20th century nobody is going to take the place of the person in the 15 th century but at least give the young artist the benefit of the doubt after all what dose he know of the 15th century. After all we only can control the moment in time

Cubism is also abstract art…
@contemporaryartissue2 жыл бұрын
Cubism is not pure abstraction-it is an abstracted representation of reality, showing its representational traces.
