My first girl made me listen to this, back in summer 2009, thought it was kinda sad at first but chill, so...yeah. We would drive at night to my place, smokin with windows open by the sea, just listening... Whenever i play this now, i m back there, young and free, besides her, gently smiling back at me. Music is a time machine.

​@@berkesaribiyik3641 Translation of Mr. Ostyn's answer from my 2018 book 'Songwriters': "'My Heroics, Part One' is about a relationship that has ended, and the impact a break-up has on one's life. It's a song about the difficulty of love, about the doubts we have. The song comes straight from a difficult period in my life. I was in love with someone who was unavailable, and the verses are me saying very clearly: 'Choose me, here I am'. A pure form of flirting. The chorus offers the other side of the story: each romantic action we undertake has a consequence. I want to seduce the object of my affection, but she can't escape her current situation. The song comes from a very emotional place, but didn't explicitly describe my own situation. There's no 'My Heroics, Part Two', because this story ended right then and there. I really like the title: it's a love song in which I detail all the heroic things I'm planning to do, and I'm going to tell you about the woman I seduced'. It's a macho title for a soft song. 'Isn't it always so?' wouldn't have been an adequate title."
