In Utah this year there are no insurers who offer Medigap plans to those under 65, so I went with a Medicare Advantage PPO plan.

@@mountaingirl2222 also, Utah does not take away assets under Medicaid. Estate recovery does happen following the death of a Medicaid recipient, but the state actually taking your assets doesn't happen. For instance, if you are living in your own home while on Medicaid, the state doesn't take possession of the house. They may require that the home be sold after your death in order to meet the recovery of the state's cost for your medical expenses while you were on Medicaid, but the state doesn't take possession of your assets. When you apply for Medicaid, if you have too much in income and assets that aren't considered exempt then you just don't qualify. Keep in mind too that you can apply for Medicaid assistance in any month that you've incurred enough in medical expenses to exceed any spenddown that Medicaid may assess, assuming that you otherwise meet the income and asset limits.

@@mountaingirl2222 Keep in mind that some Medicare Advantage Plans do not have an additional monthly premium beyond your Medicare Part B monthly premium. The plan I'm on is like that, nor do I have to pay a separate premium for the Part D drug coverage under my plan.

Hi- I realize that this video is 2yrs old,and you may not read. Breakdown- I am 54,disabled and sent a letter informing me that I have Medicare ABCD. No deductible and prescription drugs do not exceed $5. Yes social security takes out $180 monthly.Now, I am overwhelmed with how much dental and vision ( eye exams ) are available? I was on a state funded medical plan prior to this headache. I don’t pay for anything including vision foot and dentures. Having my dentures alignment,and surprisingly a wisdom tooth (that wasn’t seen @ Xray and full mouth dentures already completed. Obviously,I’m concerned! Do I have to accept Medicare or can I continue with state insurance coverage. I live in Massachusetts. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

My 28 year old Down syndrome son is on Medicare A,B, and D (for several years). He works part-time, pays his own part B and D premiums (out of his social security check). Very healthy. (Levothyroxin only med.) We live in Wisconsin. In case he has some major health issue he should probably get an Advantage plan, right? Are supplement plans even available to him?

My wife will be 64 this October. She is on SS disability and has Medicare part A. She did not need part B as she is covered under my employer group plan. My plant is shutting down on November 30th and my next job is uncertain. She wants to go ahead and start part B and D and either get a Medigap plan or an advantage plan. My question is if she opts for an advantage plan this year can she switch to a Medigap plan when she turns 65 next year?

You have a 6 month window after you become eligible. Does that window start exactly? At the date it actually starts or does backdating comes into play. I had like a 3+ year fight for disability. I was approved by a judge in November 2021 and it was back dated to October of 2018. It may even get even further back dated because this was my first 2nd case and they use the original judges Denali date as a start because my first case was in the review case and it had not been sent back down to the courts yet which now it has. Meaning I was automatically eligible/enrolled because the 24 mouth period started in 2018.

Yeah, either they have changed some of that or they made a mistake with me. I was approved for disability just 2 months ago, was paid back-payment, kicked off Medicaid a month later and immediately was sent a Medicare card (AB). No 24-month waiting period. Wish there was, rather stayed on Medicaid 2 more years. I haven't even got my monthly disability payment yet. Get the first one next month.

@@AbtInsuranceAgency Hi! Actually, Medicare starts 24 months after you're eligible to receive disability benefits, not 24 months after you've actually started receiving them. I started receiving my payments in October 2020 and started Medicare in December 2021, based on the fact that I was deemed eligible for disability back to June of 2019. (You must be considered disabled for 5 months before the 24 months starts, so in my case the 24 months began in December 2019). Not trying to be a know it all, just a clarification.

Zak age 62 on disability, LOW INCOME, ssa 536 and ssi 323. Recently I received my Medicare card, effective from January 2023. Part A,part B they checked but Part D and Part supplemental is not checked. My current medicade is pushing me to get medicare advantage plan C, and they said Original medicare will not cover vision, dental and Drugs. I like to take Original medicare. What do I do to get Part D and supplemental. Can I get 100%coverage because of my low income status. Kindly reply.
@aaronhadley3750
@aaronhadley3750 2 жыл бұрын
Hello Zak: That's because Medicare itself includes Medicare parts A and B automatically; you get to choose which Medicare Part D prescription coverage plan you want to add to that. Also, you can choose to receive your Medicare coverage through a Medicare Advantage plan (AKA "Medicare Part C") instead of Original Medicare; most Medicare advantage plans include Part D drug coverage in addition to Parts A and B. If you're sure you want a Medicare supplement plan you have to be receiving Original Medicare, not a Medicare Advantage plan. Keep in mind that it's not always possible to find an insurer who will issue a Medicare Supplement plan to people under age 65, and even if you do find an insurer that will issue plans to those under 65, you may find that the premium you will need to pay each month for the plan may be more than you can afford given your income. If that's the case, you may find that a Medicare Advantage Plan will work better for you. Being low income and having Medicaid will limit how much you will need to pay for your prescriptions each month.

How do you get full Medicare if you’ve been on SSDI for 10 years? I’m confused?
@aaronhadley3750
@aaronhadley3750 3 жыл бұрын
If you're still on SSDI, you have Medicare. You would have received your Medicare automatically after being eligible for disability benefits for 24 months. If you are receiving Social Security retiree payments before age 65, you would have been automatically enrolled in Medicare at age 65. If you were a retiree who wasn't already receiving Social Security at age 65 you would have had to sign up for Medicare at age 65, unless you waited because you had health coverage through an employer.

My wife is under age 65 and has been on SSD for over well 24 months, but we have private medical insurance through my employer. She hasn't received a Medicare card and we haven't paid any monthly fee and/or aren't being billed for part B. I believe they gave us the option to opt out and I think we chose that option due to having private medical insurance. Is that possibly what we did since no one is contacting us for part B payment?

If you're already on Medicaid, you aren't taken off of it just because you start receiving Medicare. Medicaid will stop paying the full amount of your prescription costs because you will need a Medicare Part D drug plan to cover those, but if you have both Medicare and Medicaid at the same time, you automatically qualify for assistance in paying for your drug costs anyway; in that case both Medicare and Medicaid help pay for them.
