Been looking at this rod combo to do some pike fishing to have a break from carp so was buzzing to see its being used at my local canal, can you recommend anything of better quality?

I’m not sure on the reel you’d be better off getting advice elsewhere on that but the rigged and ready predator rod is definitely a step up from this! In terms a reel I would go for a Daiwa Tatula or a Shimano Tranx. The Daiwa is more mid range and the more Shimano high end. In terms of the rod, maybe one of Savage Gear's new rods? There’s some seriously high quality rods on Aliexpress around the £50-100 mark too, might be worth looking into.

Never tried it personally but I know a couple of people who use them. They're supposed to be great, a lot better than the promax if you can afford it

Long time retired carper deciding to come out of fishing retirement and take up spinning. Just put in an order for the new MK3 Pro Max version of the combo so i'll be joining the baitcaster army! 🤘🤘 I have no doubt it will serve me well after reading about tips on brakes and drag setting to prevent backlash etc etc. Really looking forward to smashing them pike on my canal this october! 🤣 Strange you mention that the reel doesnt feel quite as smooth as other reels. The Max Pro supposedly has 7+1 BBs so should theoretically be smoother than other reels? Maybe you need to give yours a clean and dab of oil on the bearings.

Maybe I do! I don't tend to look after my gear quite as much as I should. My style of fishing is very much chuck everything in the back of my car so its there if I need it! I'm sure you'll really enjoy the reel lure fishing is so much fun. I'm hoping to give carp fishing a go one day

@@adventurefishinguk Carp fishing can be fun depending on the location and your expectations - Ive been to places where ive drawn a blank for 2months but then caught a 40lb common -- you can go other places where they have carp stock up to the 20s but you'll pretty much be pulling 6-8lb carp out every 10-15mins non stop because its so well stocked. Catching the smaller carp can be fun because they can fight pretty hard and its non stop action on private fisheries in the summer but then you get tired of that, start wanting a bigger challenge and you really cant be arsed blanking for trips and trips on end just to hook into an absolute chonker. Big carping is pretty much a game of sitting around and doing a lot of nothing unless youre catching the smaller ones. Not knocking the people who enjoy it. But Im growing a beard and no longer have the time to lounge around waiting for a bite. I live about 15mins walk away from the River Lea so for me nipping out for 2-3hrs of throwing a lure around before coming home is just more convenient and probably a lot more fun.

Regardless of the reels, both Bmax and Pmax rods are identical but have different designs, I'm I right?

I wouldn't recommend for perch just pike! I've recently upgraded to the predator rod by rigged and ready. I prefer it to the pro max rod because it has two interchangeable tips so you can change your cast weight all the way down to 10 grams up to 80, and change rod lengths. 2 year guarantee too and very reasonably priced. This rod is too heavy for perch fishing in my opinion, but is a great starter pike rod nonetheless. If you go to the rigged and ready website you can get 10% off with code AFUK10, the fish rig 180 is what I use for all my perch, chub, trout and LRF fishing. It's a great rod
